The original mix is amazing. Ever since I heard it on Hernan Cattaneos South America CD I've been after a copy. I really do love this track.

"What a bum deal for a nice sensitive guy like me." ;)

I love this track. Bassline is nice and smooth... drums are danceable and sweet... vocals are... well... wierd but w/e... they give the song some character I suppose. I don't listen to much prog, but from what I've heard the last few months, this is one of the best.
Shook1
are those vocals made for the track or is it a sample from somewhere? I've been trying to figure that out for a while.

i like the track, but im having problems interpreting the vocals.

okay correct me if im wrong but this is what i think its saying generally:

a guy sees a hooker on the street and feels sorry for her, he then sells his tv, watch etc.. to help her out and keep her from being a hooker. he then runs out of money and ends up on the street himself. she walks by him and doesnt care.

moral of the story: don't pay hookers, unless its for secks?

help me out, i dont know if i got the story right.
Wretched
man's inhumanity to man

ya this tune is really far out from all those other prog tunes. the male voice telling a story is cleverly inserted into it. pure ing genius. plus it causes total mayhem on the dancefloor

you pick up this working girl, hooked on smack
"hustles and scores, thats all I do," she says
she says, "10 bucks for head, 15 for half & half"
she says "3 hits a day @ 35 per," you say "thats 7 tricks a day atleast"
she says "sometimes I get lucky. once this guy gives me a bill and a half just to eat me...only time I ever came"

ing

you figure you can save her
you sell your color TV and it keeps her off the streets a whole day
you hock your typewriter for one joe
then your shotgun, your watch
a week later you say "listen, I'm a little short"
but she says "no scratch, no snatch"
you say "look, it is better to give"
but she says "be gone, creep"

one night they spot you on the street in your skivvies trying to sell your shoes
you tell them who you are, but they fail you
then she happens bye and she says "christ, you look ed"
she says "hang tough"
you don't say anything
you just think "what a bum rap for a nice, sensitive guy like me."

i think the lyric is more trying to convey the point that trying to help a smack head who doesnt want help and prositutes herself is fighting for a lost cause. you end up getting get the short end of the stick cuz 1.) youre broke from spending all your money on her 2.)she screwed you over for her addiction. or so the story goes.:o

Quality tuneage, but does anybody know where the vocal is lifted from (Assuming Chable/PQM didn't create themselves)...?

Sorry if someone takes this as an ill-tempered track and finds it outrageous that I laugh at the idea, but I suppose I'm cynical :D

Let me see why:

The fellow in question picked up a working girl...hardly an upstanding moral citizen to begin with.

Thinking with his cock, he decides he's going to get her to stop being a prostitute, realistic when she is only having sex with him for money?

Obviously the fellow is out of touch.

You Are Sleeping to me refers to his idealized state of affairs, he thought that he could 'save her', reality clearly isn't pointing in this direction, yet he still persists, drowning in his own addiction, this dream.

The whore meanwhile is clearly comfortable with her situation, and she finds his own sacrifice in the name of a non-existant love pathetic, at least she's seeing things as they are.

As for the origin of the vocal:
Good question, I was wondering that myself.

It's clearly meant to emulate a kitsch 50's public service film, but the actual content and use of '' and such seem to indicate that it was done more recently, either for some obscure film, or specifically for this song.
feelinveryweird
one of the tracks of 2003 for sure
sounds amazing when played live, heard james holden play it in both sydney and melbourne late last year, then nick warren dropped in new years day in sydney. went absolutely nuts all three times
