i just want to know if it' april fool's or not.
i've never heard of a worm accessing ID3 tags to drop payloads.. doesn't make much sense, especially if it's only looking for Trance genres.

so before i go changing all my mp3's to read-only...

i'm going to guess "April Fool's".

the virus asked me how big my pen0r was..i was in shocked so i rebooted my comp and it didnt show up again

It's true... this is not the first time there's a warning (I've received a couple of e-mails before) and there are reliable studies on the subject.

It was created by junglists who hate trance because of people like DJ Sammy  As if, for example, we created a virus/worm for those who listen to hip-hop because of 50Cent.

Sad, but true, ignorant people are always looking for new ways to impose their taste :( Or destroy other people's properties

(luckily enough, most my mp3's are hardhouse and techno so I don't need to worry about this particular one).

It's got several words in its database, nicked from Grimreaper's compilation, probably. If you rename "Monaco - What do you want from me" to "DJ Tiësto - What do you want from me" the virus will damage the renamed file. It also looks for the ID3 so even if you get those "house trance techno lolita mix", and it's properly tagged, it'll affect that file as well.

Like I said, it's a very cleverly built virus, from someone who really hates trance.

wait till swamper sees this

Why dont people know from the instant they see things like this that its a joke? Especially on april fools day.

^^^ Oi, just because he doesn't know about the virus there's no need to fool him.

Indeed, as he's the one who received all feedback from infected users (there's a couple of them in the Luso-Brazilian forum), but I told them to bug Swamper, as he knows more about computers than I do (even though I learned a lot about worms/virus lately because of all these threats).

"stays idle and is triggered when the system writes or reads to a file ending with the MP3 suffix. It will then search for an ID3 (v1/v2) tag and if the "Genre" field has "Trance" selected it will then release its payload and corrupt the music file at 15 second intervals"

it happened on my computer, my heart stopped when I found out over 40 gigs of my mp3s were corrupted :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip: Those bastards:whip: :whip:

I edited my ID3 tags to remove the word trance from the genre field and now things are back to normal. Someone really hates trance to do such a dastardly thing. There's some sickos out in this world. :whip:

UPDATE!

This virus has been classified as a WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION!
