MP3 player advice

Yes, another MP3 player thread :D
I'll try and make it simple this time:
I'm looking for a reasonably-priced flash-based MP3 player (yeah, I know, hard drive players are the future, but right now, the future is too expensive :p ). I've been looking at these ones:
iRiver iFP-190T
* 256MB Internal Storage
* Integrated digital FM Tuner with Presets
* Record to Player Directly From FM Tuner
* Built-in Voice Recorder
* Up to 20 hours of playback on one AA battery

Rio Chiba 256 MB
* 256MB of memory; over 8 hours of WMA or 4 hours of MP3 music
* Expansion slot to add up to 512MB additional memory using SD or MMC cards
* 18-hour continuous playback using one AAA Battery
* 5-Band Adjustable Equalizer with pre-sets

I was also looking at a few RCA models since they're so cheap, but I've heard bad things about them.
Anyway, I like the Chiba because it's expandable, but the iRiver's size and shape is much more appealing, not to mention that the iRiver is slightly cheaper. Plus I do like the whole voice recording idea... that'll allow me to fall asleep during lectures without breaking a sweat ;)
Capacity isn't all that important to me, because I won't likely be listening to it for more than an hour at a time, but it would be nice to have the option to expand in the future if needed.
Anyway, what do u think? :conf: |

I would strongly suggest checking out this link

they offer user posted product reviews, side-by-side comparisions, and places to buy them/prices.
After a certain point, size doesn't matter. I have an older iPod, only 5 gigabytes. That can hold well over 1500 songs, if not more. You can buy these used on eBay, though i don't reccomend through there, or in the paper, etc., for relativaly cheap (compared to their new 40 gig iPod, now in the ballpark of $500).
But really, do you need 40 gigs? That's enough space for well over 8500+ songs.
I don't necessiarly recomend buying anything from rio, as they don't hold a lot, or just playin suck.
If you are going to go iPod, I would go used. If so, make sure that it is PC compatiable, not Mac (I'm assuming that you don't have a mac).
I would also recommend the new Dell MP3 Players. I don't know much about them technically, but I have heard they are just as good or better as the iPod's, just aren't mac compatiable.
Gateway players are just as good also. And around $250-300
Hope this helps you out |

Yeah that's what I'm thinking.. I don't even have one gig worth of MP3s, let alone 40. That's why I am looking into these flash players... plus they're so compact.
I've read good reviews about the iRiver model from a few different places, I just wanted to make sure what I was getting into :) |

| I just bought the IRiver 256MB. it doesnt have expandable memory but it does have a line in mp3 encoder built in so you can record directly from your mixer, a fm tuner, voice recorder and easy to use software. So far i like it very much |

Apple, Gateway, and Dell MP3 players can suck me sideways.
Go with an IRiver. I have a 512MB IFP, and it owns. Period. IPods die, and the word "Gateway" or "Dell" on ANY piece of technology is guaranteed to get you screwed over. |
