so i have to move out of my manhattan apartment at the end of april, and i've been searching craigslist, village voice, etc. for a share in manhattan. as of five minutes ago, i started considering brooklyn but i wanted to hear from y'all that actually live there. how does it compare to manhattan? are the rents really that much better to make it worth it? because i do love being in the city and in the middle of everything. i would have to commute daily to midtown area -- worth it? just like to hear y'alls opinions.

Brooklyn really is better. Its alot cheaper to live here, and if your looking for a place to move to - Williamsburg is the hot spot to move to.

Don't want to start a flame war. My preference is for Manhattan. You're already there. You can walk in Manhattan and get more exercise. Manhattan people are more attractive ;) Brooklyn is quieter and slower. You'll pay a lot in transportation. I didn't find Brooklyn rents to be a whole lot cheaper just $100 $200 at the most.

I got some of the best places to eat in NY around the block from me... And the subway is 2 blocks, takes 25min from Union Sq to my front door.... Ask Miss bliss... steven niel or vlad... Brooklyn rocks it hard... You can actually get some silence out in brooklyn, where the city is always full of noise..

If you like noise, bustling activity, and people, live in manhattan. If you want a bigger apartment and quiet, go to brooklyn ;)

It definitely depends on where your head's at right now...I know a couple of 30 year old men in commited relationships but still living on their own and they made the switch from brooklyn to manhattan...they love their situation now because they dont need to coordinate train schedules (they just walk to work, which takes 10 minutes and saves $21 a week for unlimited metrocards), they pay cheaper rent (depending on where you move to), and they have that feeling of being in the middle of everything, unlike living in brooklyn and having hte feeling of being "away from the action"...

brooklyn is the type of borough where you raise your children and have peace and tranquility...there is more of a sense of community and you get to konw your neighbors on a more personal level...i was born and raised in williamsburg and i cant get enough of it nowadays..i live one block away from the L train on north 7th..takes me 10 minutes to get to union square (assuming that the train arrives the exact minute i arrive at the station)..but the downside to living in my area is how expensive it's become...you could try a move to southside (i live on the northside) near broadway where the J,M and Z trains stop...but ill warn you now...southside is a bit more, how you say, ethnically diverse than north side...it doesnt bother me, but it might probably bother some...just putting that out there....

so again, it depends on your personal and financial situation...good luck and godspeed, young jedi...
