| As far as I know, as long as you're at least 18 years of age you should be fine getting and International Driver's Permit. |

^^^
where do you get one again? |

I know for sure you can get it done at a CAA Club Office, but I believe that they can do it for you at some/most Driver & Vehicle Licence Issuing offices. Here's a LIST of those in the GTA and Toronto.
Just in case anyone else is curious...

International Driving Permit
Canada is a signatory to the 1949 UN Convention on Road Traffic. The Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) is authorised to issue the International Driving Permit (IDP) relating to this convention by the Canadian Federal and Provincial Governments.
What is an International Driving Permit?
The 1949 (IDP) is a special licence for tourists, authorised by a UN treaty among nations of the world, for the purpose of allowing motorists to drive vehicles in international traffic without further tests or applications. It is proof that the holder possesses a valid driver's licence issued by a competent authority in their country of residence.
Where is the CAA IDP valid?
In all the countries that signed the 1949 Convention on Road Traffic. In addition, many other countries which are not signatories to the Convention recognise the IDP and accept it in their territories.
IDP's issued by CAA are only valid outside North America.
What are the additional advantages of using the IDP?
It provides the holder with an extra photo ID. Provides translation of your valid Canadian Drivers licence since the IDP is printed in 10 languages (English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, German, Arabic, Italian, Scandinavian and Portuguese.) Most Car Rental agencies will request an IDP even though one is not required to drive in their country.
How do I obtain one?
You can obtain an application by either contacting your local CAA office to pick-up or have an application mailed to you, or by printing the application (see below).
Requirements for issue, along with the following attachments, are:
the applicant must be 18 years of age or older
valid Canadian provincial driver's licence (regardless of nationality)
2 passport type photographs
fee payment of $15.00
complete and sign the CAA IDP application form (no other form is acceptable)
If you have any questions, please call International Documentation Services at CAA National office (613) 247-0117 ext. 2025.
Mailed in applications must include the fee payment in the form of a Bank draft, money order or cheque *in Canadian funds drawn on a Canadian bank payable to the Canadian Automobile Association. If you wish to pay by Visa or MasterCard your card number and expiry date must be provided. One to three weeks should be allowed for the IDP to reach you by mail.
If you are applying in person at any one of our offices, the IDP can usually be issued immediately.
*The Alberta Motor Association no longer accepts cheques from non-members.
An IDP cannot be post dated, extended or renewed. It is valid for one year from date of issue. Each time a new IDP is required, the applicant must complete a new application form, produce a valid Canadian driver licence, provide 2 new photographs and the fee.
If you have any questions, please call the nearest CAA Club office listed below.
Application
Please print, complete and either take the application, along with 2 signed, full face passport photographs, fee of $15.00CAN and a copy of your Canadian driver's licence to the CAA office nearest you for across the counter processing, OR send by mail to the nearest Club office address... |
Here is the application itself: International Driving Permit |

| My Ontario drivers licence was enough to rent/drive a car in the UK, Germany and Australia. Didn't need any International Licence. |
