It sure does. Nyana's not amazing, but it got a worse rap than it deserved just because it was Tiesto and he has set the bar so high. Armin's and Ferry's last compilations were quite generic, yet no big fuss was made about that.
ISOS3 got a lot of diss for the transitions in the first 4 tracks and the one into Southern Sun, and listening to them now one can appreciate how brilliant they really were. |

and yet the paradox is that youre half praising it because it was done by Tiesto.
if youre at the point where you can release an album and have it distributed to almost every single record store worldwide, and you know that it's going to sell and be heard by hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people, then at least think it out properly.
the tracks were good singularly at the time of the release, but the way they were mixed almost ruined them and gave no form to the compilation itself. |

believe me or not i dont care but names dont mean much to me i listen to what i like and just go about my day... i bought nyana and have listened to it once... i think its pretty average to say the least just does nothing for me... that tiesto mix live from enegrgy mix from donkeys years ago is pretty mint but aye...
i do thinbk however that i shall go have a listen to one of those dj dawn mixes i downloaded earlier today...

| i never even bothered to listen to CD1 of Nyana for more than a couple of minutes... just checking it out now: i love how he plays 3 tech trance tracks to start out (which i don't like at all) and then right into uplifting "let the light shine in". the mix here wasn't disgusting like some on CD2, but it certainly didn't pleasantly surprise me. there is such a complete lack of care put into this CD. there is NO flow, which is what i said the first time i listened way back when. the tracks don't work together, though, as somebody pointed out, many of them are very good individually. |

nyana is not bad... the vinyl sampler has a couple massive tracks. |

| But magik, ITWT volumes, you see a difference in track selection and mixing compared to Nyana. Tiesto's Nyana sold very well in North America, so I'm sure Tiesto's pocketbook in not hurting. |

no no no, the mixing was fine. i'm not half praising it, i'm saying it naturally got a lot of undeserved criticism just because it was a Tiesto mix comp, and the same thing has happened with every Tiesto mix comp since Magik 6. i still like most of the past comps better (except summerbreeze), that doesn't mean i'm half praising nyana.
nyana is just a picture in time of Tiesto's style during the first half of 2003. i personally loved the mixing because it definitely is MY kind of mixing (radical harmonic contrasts, tension and timing releases etc.). but hey, that's my taste. the main criticism has been that the first 3 tracks of CD 1 are too repetitive and boring, when Supertiel sets the perfect mood and is a very original start for a trance dj. mostly mp3 kiddies that can't take harder or edgier stuff, but not all of them.
compare it to his style TODAY and there's a huge difference, because unlike someone like Armin, Tiesto's style is constantly evolving and moving forward. |

I must say I am split on this issue. I really enjoyed Nyana, but really only because of disc two. I think I have listened to disc one maybe three or four times since I bought it, while disc two is a staple in my listening repetoire.
I am in agreement with what seems to be a consensus about disc one. The first few tracks were not impressive to me and did a poor job of bringing me into the album (which is what the first tracks should do). Overall, disc one did not take me on the 'journey' that Tiesto's compilation albums are known for.
I thought disc two was excellent. Where some of you saw an eclectic collection of different styles, I saw it in a more positive light. Track selection was diverse and the disc has many hits (beautiful things, nothing, ATRC). Its lighter sound is also inviting for people who are somewhat unfamiliar with the genre. It is also oneo f the best albums to have on when you're *ahem* entertaining someone of the opposite sex. |
