anyone hear about this? I guess they were keeping an eye on the place after that girl died (presumably after partying there?) From the Toronto Star's website:

Man charged with dealing drugs in a bar

CURTIS RUSH
STAFF REPORTER THESTAR.COM

Undercover Toronto drug squad officers have charged a man with trafficking in ecstasy and cited the Film Lounge on Dundas St. W. with drug-related liquor license violations.

After receiving complaints of drug dealing inside the bar, undercover officers posed as patrons and, over four weeks, were able to purchase ecstasy pills from a man on many occasions, police said today.

The officers said they also observed drug trafficking taking place in full view of bar patrons.

On Friday, just before 2 a.m., undercover officers entered the Film Lounge and made one arrest and laid a variety of Liquor Licence Act charges.

Police say they found a large quantity of rave-associated drugs — included cocaine and ecstasy — throughout the bar, which they say were discarded by patrons when the police arrived.

Quoc Hung Luu, 38, of Toronto, is charged with several counts of drug trafficking. Police also charged the liquor license holder — who was not identified — with various offences, including permitting a controlled substance

it says the investigation was over four weeks long, so I don't know what prompted it.

opps...good point...they were already watching the place.

Weird though, you'd think the management or owners of Film Lounge would have at least done something after her death? Maybe had some extra security to help curb the open drug dealing and consumption? Surely they knew they'd be watched more closely after that? Of course it's going to go on at after hours clubs...but discretion is generally a good idea, especially after someone dies who was (presumably) partying at your club? I dunno...I don't have all the facts...seems strange that it appeared to be "business as usual" if all of these suppositions are true though, no?

or they "claim" 4 weeks. That way itll seem like it was random checking rather having a specific reason.

so the club owner got charged too? hrm I wonder how much..

cool.. now what about all the other clubs in TO that do a slightly better job of hiding it .. ?

The owners and promoters know exactly what goes on their club as far as drugs are concerned. Who are we kidding.

exactly my point...I'm surprised that after the girl's death, that everyone, especially Film Lounge, didn't crack down a bit...if for no other reason that to protect themselves. strange...

Pressure from a big powerful foreign country below you is what's prompting this. The fact that a massive drug bust hit and then a big documentary was released on E was no coincidence. The only coincidence was the girl dying which was truly unfortunate. :(

I'm not so sure about that; take a look at our pot laws...
We're certainly a lot more even-keeled when it comes to "Reefer Madness".

Interesting how Film became the example when Guv has had it in their club for yeeeeeeeeeears...

Well seeing as I don't know anything about the e scene inside clubs, how good is the stuff you can usually get in any club? The problem I'd have with it in the clubs is that you wouldn't have all your reagents to test it inside :(
