help with some New York City clubs ???

I'm researching into some New York City clubs that would be good to hold "underground" electronic dance music events.

a major publication is writing an article on the electronic dance music club at my university and they have requested locations in new york city that we can feature our dj's in.

anybody have any good club suggestions? currently my list likes like the following:

++ sullivan room
++ lunatarium aka dumbo
++ roxy
++ arc
++ crobar
++ spirit

the clubs need to be able to cater to a wide range of electronic music, especially genres that easier to relate to the "underground" scene, such as downtempo, techno, breaks, dnb, hardcore.

if you have any suggestions let me know or if you have any comments on the clubs that are listed please include them :). This won't happen until August but i need club info soon so the publication can secure a spot.

roxy arc and crobar are top notch venues but way too big if you want "underground" I doubt you could cover your budget, off course that depends on your following, the event etc....
Also arc is closing the 24th of this month so that cancels it out.

I can't really comment on the rest because I don't live in the city and am not that knowledge on the different venues.

sadly arc's closing later this month

yeah - i heard Arc is closing this month. :(

do you know if the club itself is closing or if the party that the promoters throw in there is not running anymore? i'm interested in clubs more than promotion parties .. the publication I am working with will promote the party itself - as far as i know.

Arc nightclub was renting the location ... and the building has been sold as whole. Word has it, it's going to turn into an apartment complexe.

man ,,try looking into bars to start with and work your way up.....theres a lot of half decent bars in nyc with quality sound systems......underground dance music dont happen in places like arc crobar and spirit......youre missing the point if you wanna see your people play in these places...........find yourself a dirty little warehouse or a moody little bar and post the details on here..............

Shelter has a long-running deep house event on Saturdays (which used to be at Vinyl, which later became Arc), but often hosts rave-like special events, especially for holidays
It is the present home of Twilo's speakers

I Disagree. I used to frequent the tunnel(abandoned subway tunnel turned into a club) (97 to 00') & Limelight (hundred year old church converted into a Club) (98 - 01')....... Since they shut down I feel that arc is the closest thing there is to underground in the city.
