Yep, I had the same problems too - the hinge on BOTH sides started to crack and break up. But I found a real neat ghetto solution, lol...

You know those small metal wire twisties you can get for plastic bags? Use them! I just cut off the paper portions of the wire twisties, and then twist them around the hinges to close the cracks. Works great. I initially tried crazy glue, but that does NOT work - the cracks are too rough for the glue to stick together.

You would think Sony would use materials better than CHEAP PLASTIC for $150 headphones. Ugh. Lame.

samething happens on the new pioneers...seems like the more money you spend the less craftsmenship is put into them.

Cheaper is better, you can get some sweet technics headphones for 40 bucks that do the samething at Fry's Electronics if you guys have that up north.

Other than that man, Sony's are great, the quality is crap!

The Sennheiser HD-280's are probably the best headphones to get. They are sturdy, clear and cheap. And for the money you would have spent on a pair of Pioneers and Sonys, you could get 2 pairs of Sennheiser's.

Mine has only a fixable short at the plug but other than just readjusting some screws they work fine still after getting them in 1998.

Call 1 800 222 SONY (7669) and tell them what happened as long as you have a receipt and warranty they should be able to help.
