off topic: Agreed, most forums don't allow quoting an entire article its annoying and it's a copyright violation. Mod if you're out there you might want to consider limiting posts to only links and brief quotes when necessary.

I believe in religious freedom, the First Amendment, and the right of scientists to practice their science unfettered by religious extremism executed by a supposedly non-partial government.
Why do you interpret that as a grudge against Christians? That’s a serious flaw in your logic dear.

I’m opposed to the French government’s banning of Muslim headscarves in public schools, as I consider that a breach of religious freedom. Does that make me anti-French?

I do get upset with some Fundamentalists sometimes for their seeming blindness to anything other than the literal interpretation of their chosen holy book. We’ve seen what happens when these people get into power, and you only need look at Iran to see an example of what I’m talking about. This isn’t Iran, this is America Nellie.
Arctic asked me the other day why I still consider myself a Catholic even though I hate the Vatican.
My thoughts are that the while Jesus' words can be useful in shaping a model of morality for oneself, many of the organizations that have sprouted up proclaiming to follow his words have strayed woefully from those words. Many Christian Fundamentalist preachers, and the Vatican hierarchy, I find are some of the most bigoted, anti-human individuals imaginable.
Thus you can argue that in a sense the Bible and other Holy books are practically useless, since one person can interpret a passage as a message of peace, and another can interpret the same passage as a call to war (or jihad).
That in a nutshell is the inherent flaw of religion; it's only as relevant as the person interpreting it. |
