anyone know what a good second hand price on this beast would be?
http://www.mackie.com/products/8bus/

also, when looking around on google i noticed some had an extra attachment at the back of this same mixer called a "meter bridge"

here is a photo of a mackie 32/8 with the meter bridge

i saw the meter bridge attatchment selling on sweetwater for 700 something.. which was way more expensive than i imagined... but i might be able to find one cheaper as i look around.

but whatta ya think is a good price for a mackie 32/8 second hand and selling without the meter bridge?

also i'm not really sure how important the meter bridge really is... but i figure that any visual aid for production will help make the process easier.

if anyone can let me know what the meter bridges purpose is, just let me know.

i have a decent idea of what it does...but im not 100% sure.. maybe someone can explain it.

As I'm guessing what this meter bridge holds.... VU meters or such sort of meters, there's specific uses for meters...

Before you mix to tape or record to tape, you must balance/calibrate all your channels to 0dB(u) (unity gain over the whole board) using a 1Khz tone thru the whole board. This ensure that all levels are consistently at the same volume at the same position. This same process ensure that your stereo mix output is equal too.

are there benefits of having the meter bridge if i record to my hard disk?
SgtFoo
of course.... for recording to anything, it's good to have.

cool..thanx for the comments.

but do you know what a decent price for this mixer would be? a second hand one without the meter bridge.

A meter is not necessary, but it's a great help to have an immediate view of the channel levels. Balancing levels and calibrating can be done perfectly without the bridge (using solo's), but like I said, it's much handier if you can see each channels level instantly without having to flip a certain amount of switches.

Bout the price. A new model goes around for about 4000-4500$. For a decent second hand model, you can still count for about half that retail price. Prices without meter bridge...
