I have a question...

If i'm just wanting one single turntable to play vinyl, do i get belt or direct ??? I believe someone told me belt was always better in this area. Could i just get a used, cheap turntable for $30 I have seen at music stores, or is quality just as important here as well? I'm guessing I would also need speakers correct? :conf: Thanks in advance ! :)

Technically speaking if your only gonna play vinyl, belt should do the job. However i dont know how long a cheap turntable would last you, better be safe and get a slightly better quality turntable. And yes in order for sound quality youll need good needles and speakers.

The hardcore audiophile turntables are all belt driven. Better sound quality, I hear. If I were you, I'd either go the hardcore audiophile route and get a really nice belt drive + cart/needle, or I'd go the "I might want to be a DJ at some point, but I don't know" route, and buy a Tech 1200 + good cart/needle. I'm an audionerd though, so you should probably take that into consideration.

heh, i would only consider comments from you audionerds anyways lol . I never thought about buying a Technic and then having the option of purchasing another for the ladder choice.. excellent sir !! excellent ! I have made up my mind... :D

To all you others who gave me your input, thanks alot !! I appreciate it.

Cept a technics 1200 will set you back a bit more than 30-90 bucks =P

That's the issue hehe.

yes yes, i see where your coming fron my friend. But a single table will be greatly cheaper than purchasing another + a mixer + headphones + cables. I wanted to do this before and saw the prices :( so, im just going to resort in buying one + needles. i have speakers, whether or not they do justice i will have to find out :) In all reality, im just playing tricks on myself you know. I've seen the prices for a full technic set up and know that for one technic turntable, it will be much cheaper... but really, that one technic table is much more expensive that other brands of tables.. and since i 've seen seen only the prices of the full setup.. im just telling myself im not spending barely any money. heeh just my way of thinking i guess. this is really long and i dont really know why. :conf:

It's late... you're allowed hehe.

Keep in mind the temperature will affect how the belt driven table plays... as at higher temps the belt will be "looser" and at colder temps the belt will be tighter. Also the best quality belt driven turntables are MUCH more expensive than thebest direct drive tables (make a search for some belt driven TTs - some exceed 2000 USD). Also you'll find that you'd want to hear a track that's a TINY bit sped up because you're used to hearing it in a set and it's sped up in the set, so you'll want a table that can hold its pitch well.

Man just get a Technics 1200, yea it's a bit pricey but the resale value is the best of all TTs out there. And I mean eventually you're going to start to want to DJ too, it's just inevitable.

d'oh I just read that you made up your mind... and that you're getting the 1200! Good on you!

Keep in mind that you also need an amp with Phono input.

well, you could use headphones Or speakers, hehe, but yeah you will need speakers. but, dont think you need 'special' dj or mixing speakers. you probably have a home stereo of some kind, as long as it has an input of some kind, it will work for you. so if you use your home stereo, you will save some $. but you probably knew about using them already...
