not too ignorant jayme, it IS somewhat true.. hip hop turned garbage after the rise of puffy in 97 when it hit super commercial status.. anything that gets crazy commercial success, it turns to .. back in the days, it was all about phat beats & dope rhymes.. thats it, then there would be a chart topper once in a while.. when underground groups and mcees like wu-tang, smif & wessun, redman, atcq were selling gold and even platinum albums.. nowadays these artist dont even reach gold.. cuz the whole content of hip hop has turned upside down.. its like, you HAVE to rhyme about bull , bling, naked hoes and 30" rims if you dont wanna get dropped from your label.. its sad that some new mcees are forced to do this if they wanna stay in the game.. i mean, there ARE few cats here n there that are tight, but just the whole hip hop scene is wack. or weak should i say... |

obviously when it becomes commercial the quality...but in terms of pure rhymers: thurston howl 3, chino xl, ras kass, redman (when he feels like it), and about 40% of spoken word artists...
and oh yeah, rakim is STILL better than any of them... |

Call it ignorance if you must, but the fact is hip hop is not what it use to be. Rakim is phat, one of the best of all time. Highmay, one name not mentioned on your list is Method Man, although he's not what he use to be. Regardless of what you say, Biggie and Pak were the two greatest rappers of all time, no questions asked imo. Other than Eminem, I'm not crazy for any one at the present time. 50 cent is horrid, and Jay Z became . |
