Okay, this is an in search of advice thread.
I've recently gotten my undergraduate degree in biology with a minor in Italian. Before I move on to graduate school, I'm taking a year or two off, and in the mean time, I'd like to relocate to Italy for 3-6 months so I can finally become fully fluent in the language and culture of my family.
Have any Americans or non-Italians ever done this? I know there's the "teach English" option, but many require a certificate, which I'd like to avoid, since it costs $1500 for the classes to get it. I really don't care what I do, as long as it pays enough for me to get by. I wouldn't mind volunteering either, as long as I don't have to sink alot of my own money into it.
I realize you have to get a work visa started by your Italian employer if you're going to work there, so I wondered if any of you have any suggestions. I play bass (jazz, so I could play just about anything), do patient care at a hospital, I've done groundskeeping and construction, I am very handy with computers (computer engineering at the University of Illinois), and I also consider my English skills to be excellent.
Okay, well I know this sounds like a resume, but do any of you have suggestions of what I can do and who I should contact? |
