How can I make my bassdrum and bass get more tight?

U think I should change bassdrum - sound?

The kick and the bass

What do you mean by "tight". In musical composition "tight" usually means "on beat" or in rhythm. You can accomplish this by using quantize on your notes in the sequencer or using a program that does notes for you like Fruity loops, reason, or project5.

But I doubt you mean that.

You probably mean "tight" as in the PVD sound which is more of a clean tight sound.

You can do that by compressing the bass and kick together and eq'ing them on their own. The kick getting from about 100-250 hz and the bass getting about 40-200hz and rolling off all the other frequencies.

Gee, we have never had a question like this before. :) I'm just kidding.

Anyway, there have been so many times this has been discussed that I suggest you do a search on the topic. It's quite a complicated subject and there have been several good discussions on TA about this.

Good luck to you.

Can you get more detaild about sidechain compression? What compressors do you guys use? The one in reason or would you recommend spending the money on a hardware compressor. Like a FOCUSRITE P.Penta?
