Hihats, percussion etc.

I wonder if there's any general FX:ing that should/can be applied to open/closed hihats, sticks, percussion etc. (and now I don't mean single instrument EQ:ing, which of course everyone does their own subjective fiddling with)? I use only mono samples for these drum sounds, but try to fiddle around a bit with different panning here and there, not much, just hardly noticeable panning effects. I'm not usually using any kind of compression or reverb on these instruments, a low amount on delay sometimes if that sounds reasonable or if I'm searching for a certain sound.

Did I make myself clear? :)

I don't think there's any "general" fx stuff for percs as such. I usually just use some panning, delay and stereo echoes reverb to give some percs a bit of presence.

I think the more important bit is the layering.

Compression also, so the percussion can be tight in the mix. Some producer use low pass filters on certain percussions. I personally like to pan certain elements to get that full stereo feel. Some delay and reverb works for certain percussions also.

I agree with the whole adding Fx, eqing and compression thing. But i feel as if my percussion is still weak and not as driving as it should be. I just need a good set of percussion samples and such...

Something to me just doesnt sound right.
this is with my tracks that is..

Delay, reverb, filtering, eq, distortion. The are many things you can do to make them sound nice/different, it really depends on what you want to achieve. The most important thing is to have some decent percussion samples and to put them in the right spot. Then use fx to make the percussion sound better.

arranging def has a lot to do with it, but it seems as if my percussions arent full enough, The samples that im using suck in my opinion. I need a few good percussion samples, if u know of any good places. But good percussion for trance production.

I am trying to achieve the markus schulz, gabriel & dresden sound. That progressive sound, with the trance element.

If u have any tips on that PLEASE!! let me know

hmm highpass filter on perc?? doesn't that reduce tbe sound if you cut all the low frequencies?

delay , and panning for me, and stereo echo ya.
