FLP effects on hardware synths?

Earlier I have mostly been making my hardware lead lines etc. in other programs than FLP, and then recorded the MIDI file to wave, and used it as a loop in FLP. Not the best way to sustain crisp and fresh sound and to keep the mix editable, it says itself. But when I try to have my MIDI playing live as one track in my FLP-projects, there's a big problem that I've stumbled upon. Is there any way to have the hardware synth to obey the FX and event editor commands from within FLP? It seems for me that the only command my synth obeys from FLP is velocity. Cutoff, resonance etc. does only work from the knobs on the synth. Tweaking on the knobs in realtime every time you play your track doesn not seem like a very good alternative...:conf:
