mixing techniques?

vol down chan 1, vol up chan 2. :P.

or, just use eqs. work in the highs, and some mids slowly, then when you want some mad bass.....slam the bass up.

At first I used to gradually mess with the EQs throughout the entire transition, but now I try and make each increase or decrease on every 8th beat or 16th beat or so. I decided to do this after listening to some of my mixes and realising the cutting of the track at random beats, and it sounded much less clear. I hope that makes sense.

theres also a tactic where you raise the levels right before your 8th or 16th beat...like at the 6 or 7th or so. kinda priming it.

just something to think about.

so let me ask , after beatmatching, mixing the 2 records in ... what are u looking to do... to bring one record in w/ little notice, and than slamming it in ... or gradually bringin in ... so u have 2 records playing right ? fader is in the middle...the bass on the main record is louder .. and u mix in the beat smoothly ?? just lookign for some advice, novice dj... dont have many friends who dj, so dont know where to see advice really at times ...

I mean I know the basics of mixing 2 songs, but what makes the big dj's , so big ? what is it theyc an accomplish techinically that others cant ??? any any advice, information, would greatly apperciated.

All depends on what kind of set you're going for.. Play with it all, find what sounds good to you and practice that. As long as you've got the fundamentals down, theres no "wrong" way to DJ. =]

how do you guys do for breaks though? i've managed to learn how to mix from 4/4 to breaks consistently, but not from breaks back to 4/4, and my breaks on breaks could certainly use some work.

sometimes, when i mix a 4/4 onto a breaks record, even though it's correctly beatmatched, and sometimes even phrased, it just sound wrong. blah. does feel great though that first time i let go of a breaks record and its in time :D:D

i cant mix breaks and 4/4 songs together. i can mix two breakbeat songs together no problem but i have yet to mix a regular song w/ a breakbeat song and have it sound even close to ok. i dont even try anymore. maybe its just me.
