No, installing a new kernel isn't a forum revamp, just a minor server update.

Pardon this guy's ignorance, but what is a 'new kernel', exactly?

Yes I know a new kernel doesn't have anything to do with a major forum revamp, I was just wondering if it had anything to do with it. Any sort of connection.

Loosely described, it's the "brain" of a Linux/UNIX system... the part of the OS that actually runs, minus the drivers and extensions and stuff.

Sorta like the engine of a car, I guess. Updating the kernel is an oil change.
