Why Are Drugs Bad?

I have been wondering about this for a long time. All the drugs that give you a high, Ecstacy, Coke, Heroin etc. are all bad for you, obviously :rolleyes:
So why is this? Surely with todays science it would be possible to make a drug that gives you the same kind of high but with no side effects to the body. Why is it that everything that's pleasurable has to be bad? |

| Realistically, just about everything is bad for you in the long term, not just drugs. Too much of anything can kill you, and drugs make you want to have lots and lots of them. |

plus you're introducing a foreign, processed and generally unnatural substance into your body. Medicines obviously are too but these things aren't here to assist your immune system. |

Yes, but drugs designed to get you high are probably the worst thing for your body to physically take.
You don't hear of someone dying after taking 1 asprin or paracetamol. I'm not trying to get preachy, I'm all for the use of hard drugs as long as they are used resonsibly. It just confuses me as to why they are so bad compared to others. |

| actually its not that bad physically cept for the lack of eating...if u forced urself to eat ud be ok..whats bad abt drugs is mentally u turned ed up...ur personality changes once ur a drug fiend and ur priorties change as well...u live every mintue for the next highand once ur high ur a complete dickwad...drugs are bad mmmkay |

That really isn't true though, and I don't know what you're basing it on. Weed and ecstasy aren't really bad for you unless you take them in excess. Even cocaine doesn't have severe negative effects if it's pure enough (it's "dirty" cocaine that's the worst for you).
But I guess, if you want a "general" explanation?
Many things that damage our brains seem to produce a "good" feeling. Alcohol is literally poison. So perhaps you've got it backwards - it's not that the things that make us high are bad for us, it's that many things which are bad for us just happen to make us high.
Many exceptions to that generality though, as stated earlier. |

| It's the slow and inevitable loss of brain power most of us can look forward to. Then again, many of my friend's parents (and including my own) were quite ..experimental in their day, and most of them are bang on with everything...... except for those......pauses....in....between thoughts. ;) |

some of the illegal drugs were made by pharmaceutical companies like Merck.
Of course their intention isnt to poison or harm people ;)

Yeah maybe. If there is a substance that people find pleasurable, it may eventually lead to substance abuse, which isnt good. Even some legal drugs lead to abuse too, but its the government's decision to decide which drugs are legal probably according to substance abuse rates and toxicity of the substance (carcinogenic, side effects). |

| Well think about it. If all these "pleasure drugs" didn't have harmful effects, the whole world would be taking them like mad, and so the whole world would be, in-effect, a pleasure seeking mad-house full of manic clowns. |

| The reasons drugs are bad is because people like you experiment on them with their pets! jc. That's also why they are illegal. because you odn't know how to use them correctly. |
