Introduction

This project will determine the specific alignment and station locations of the subway extension from Downsview Station towards York University and Steeles Avenue. The City of Toronto and the TTC are the proponents of this project, which is being conducted as an Individual Environmental Assessment under Ontario’s Environmental Assessment (EA) Act. This EA is scheduled to take approximately two years, with completion and approval by the Ministry of the Environment projected for early 2006.

The purpose of this site is to keep you informed about the project as it progresses, and to provide a convenient way for you to send us your input at several critical stages. Please check this site periodically, as it will be updated regularly throughout the project.

:whip: The subway stinks...I hate it...ever since I came to Toronto it's been going from good to mediocre to bad to worst to garbage every year...I'm starting to think that there are some serious management and theft issues at the higher management levels of the TTC...I know they are underfunded and everything but I'm sick and tired of the excuses...the system is completely breaking down. The other day I was stuck at Finch waiting for a train for 20 minutes and almost missed a VERY important presentation...I'm tired of the BS...

Instead of expanding it to all directions they should first of all fix what they already have cause it's BRUTAL...

BUT...I do agree that eventually it should be extended 100%

*EDIT*

I have recently worked for a few municipally run companies and organizations and I realized what the problem is. All these companies have engineers running business. Now, not to say that engineers aren't smart enough, they are...very much so...but these guys are OLD school and have no business education whatsoever. I think that the management is to blame...terrible planning.

Now doing coop I work for Toronto Hydro...these guys saw the need to change and hired a lot of business professionals to lead their business...created excellent returns expanded their business and now they are doing very well. I think organizations like the TTC should follow this example.

i don't know if that's the case but i agree with u by saying engineers aren't really supposed to run bussiness. It's not what they specialized in. I know that cuz the engineering doesn't offer any suffecient creditable bussiness education unless you take the joint Eng/bussiness program which is longer by 2 years than regular 4 year engineering.

but whatever the problem is @ TTC, they better resolve it and quickly. Increasing the tickets by 10-20 cents wont solve anything. I say some type of real long term bussiness solution. Right now, it's as good as private.

Regarding my previous post...I guess I got a little too passionate about it...I don't know if they have changed their management yet at TTC but that's definitely something to consider in my opinion...I guess I shouldn't blame them because I don't know 100% but I'm familiar with the general approach of these "government owned" companies.

I just know from personal experience that TO Hydro made the move and it was very successful.

That's a joke right? Have you ever got on a 60 steeles or 96/196 bus?
From 7 to 7, they're all packed, through out the day.
Makes more sense to build that, then to build the Eglinton which sees active use between 6-9 and 4-6.

Well, i've been on both busses and well.. i've got to say that although the eglinton bus is packed a lot... the Steeles bus looks like it's getting invaded my mongol hordes 24/7 (that was not a racist comment).. anyhow.. steeles needs some work before eglinton for sure

Yorku has the second most parking spots in Ontario, out of any other facility. Second only to the airport.

It would be good, not only for traffic reasons to extend the subway, but also for the environment.

When its packed heading to york on a sunday night, you know there is a traffic problem
