Laptop to mixer connection

I was wondering is there an alternative to connecting a laptop/computer to a mixer using a 3.5mm Jack to audio plugs? say in the form of a USB connection to audio plugs, as i find the output from my laptop is only the headphone socket which isn't ideal for playing tunes from there through my mixer and on to my sound system.

Can anyone recommend me anything?

thank you in advance :)

first you would need a usb soundcard to connect to your laptop. like the m-audio box. i think thats what its called.

www.m-audio.com

check it out.

Also check the Indigo line of PCMCIA card-slot soundcards at http://www.echoaudio.com

ya do a http://google.com search for something like:
DJ breakout box recording usb

I heard the M-audio MBOX is OK... I heard the Analog-to-Digital convertor on there is not as good as others. IT is very popular though.
I like the ECHO brand stuff myself. They have breakout boxes that run through a firewire connection as well as USB 2.0.

i got the edirol ua-1a the other day - i have nbo complaints - the quality is as good as it will get really - good thing about this one is that you have a usb to rca line out as well so you can play streams through your stereo as well

actually the m-box is not a m-audio hardware. It's made by digidesign, the same guys that makes protools. As for a usb soundcard, there's the maudio audiophile 24/96 usb, and for pcmcia i would check out echo's indiglo series.

Regarding the Echo Indigo cards, make sure your notebook computer does not use the ENE cardbus chips. Check in XP Control Panel / Device Manager / PCMCIA Adapter. The ENE chips don't work right with audio. Certain Toshiba, HP, and Sager notebooks use the ENE chip.
