i had a 1000w alpine sub powered by an 800W(peaks ratings) kenwood amp, was definitely more than enough bass for my music:) . Have standard e factory swtup in my current car, but looking at an alpine headunit, 2 sets of JBL or infinity 6x4's and some sort of amp and sub, not sure which yet though:)

ehh, one thing I notice is peoplw always say I dont' want too much bass.

one way to combat that is to have sufficient highs and mids. No one concentrates on them, excpet me. :wtf:

get a crossover and power your interior speakers....and get tweeters.

For great audio quality: choose MB Quartz or Orion. THose speakers simply rock
Turbonium

I work as a car audio installer, and honestly the choice of using a sealed or ported box depends greatly on the sub that your going to use. I will say this never use a bandpass box, the response is poor and they are prone to damageing speakers.
Someone else was praising MB Quarts. MB Quart as a company has been sold. Most of their top engineers have left and now work with JL Audio developing their coaxials and components.
Do you have a price range that you would like to be in? Are you listening to strictly trance music? What kind of car is it in?
I myself have a kenwood kvt-911dvd which is a dvd player/screem, sirius satellite radio, and a 40gig hard drive. The music is sent from one of these to an alpine 13 band in dash eq with a parametric equalizer. The signal then goes to a soundstream picasso, and a soundstream 10.1, both class a amplifiers. The picasso powers JL Audio three way components, and the 10.1 powers a solobaric 12". For the electrical system I use an optima red top, and a 24v 1 farad capactitor. I also have quite a bit of dynamat in the car.
Now that I'm sure I bored you with this, if you have any questions about your own system, feel free to send me a PM, I'll do my best to help you.

for trance i personally like the mids and tweets the most... i dont dwell on teh base. for my subs i picked up a couple rockford fosgate 10" in a sealed box i made out of 1" thick mdf. its crisp and clean sounding. i have a nice chrome MA audio 1400 watt amp taht i picked up at the local clearance house for 200 bucks that powers my subs and i have a nice set of rockford aluminum tweeters on the dash, another set on teh top of the a pillars, two four six inch 2 way rockfords in teh doors, two blaupunkt six by nines in the packagetray and i mounted 2 4" two way rockfords under the headliner right behind the front seats in the roof adds a really cool three d effect. all these are powered by a 8 channel MA audio amp. and my head unit is a rockford mp3 cd deck. all in all i find for trance anyways its the mids and trebbles that are key. bass is nice but its not teh be all end all. i have been in way too many of my buddies cars taht just go out and buy a new head unit and huge subs. all you feel is bass, which is cool and all but i just get a bit sick of it. i like the melodies and such in trance... now if you listen to jungle or dnb alot then i would recooment getting the huge subs. but as far as im concerned spend the money wehre it counts. good mids and tweets...thats where you can hear the fidelity anyways..
