That rich, rolling bassline...

Ok, this is a more specific bassline question...
I'm new to producing, and I am getting all the elements into my track pretty well so far. One that I am having alot of trouble with is the bassline... I wanted to recreate a "rolling" type of bassline, similar to the one used by Ferry Corsten in his awesome remix of
F Massif - Somebody (Ferry Corsten Remix)
A minute or so into the track the bassline takes off and hits on pretty much every beat of the measure... do you guys notice a delay he used? Or did he just program the bassline to hit on every beat? It's hard for me to tell the difference at this point. Also, to get that rich, think, bouncy type bassline, which waveform is more typically used? Sine, Saw, 303, Triangle, Pulse? I'm thinking Sine or Triangle because the Saws and 303s give me a "growling" type sound, but then again after tweaking some parameters you can get a deeper sound seems like. Any insight into this is much appreciated.

303 is not a waveform.. 303 uses saw or square
try a filterend saw or a (pwm'd) square to get a smoother sound
K bBb K bBb K bBb K bBb
is a typical ferry bassline with B being the same note one octave higher. You might also try the search.. I remember some good bass posts a while ago. |

I tryed to make that bassline using reason, came close. From what i hear it is the sequence mentioned above. Pretty common rolling line like in Goryella. I used 2 square waves with heavy Kbd on the filter. FX's were Unison and delay, the delays feedback was quite high seemed to make all the difference in having that more rounded sound. im sure that layers would probably help to get that full fat sound that Ferry uses.
Hope that this gives you a start cause im sure that there is more to getting the exact sound. |
