| I won't write a review yet but just to say that I would be completely satisfied if I never went to a big party again (probably won't happen). There is nothing more to really experience in the scene right now other than something like Love Parade or Ibiza. |

Just browsing this today, after getting back to Toronto late last night. Sigh, after a weekend of such intense and memorable fun, the office today seems even more boring and grey than usual.
Review to come a bit later when I have some time. |

For the moment I will leave you with a few short phrases...
You guys rocked: the dancing, the musical beds, the continuous digression of conversation, all the BEAUTIFUL montrealers, and of course our wonderful group.
Now I must continue sleeping and coughing. I will write later

well, what can i say that hasn't already been said?! this was my second time attending bal en blanc, the first time was two years ago at olympic stadium. and even then, i was impressed with the level of partying that montrealers get up to! ;)
i arrived at the palais des congress just after midnite, only to see a huge line up down the side of the building. my friends and i had to wait close to two hours to get into the party. the line moved ridiculously slow as there was a problem with the coat check area. so that put a bit of a damper on the mood at the beginning of the nite cuz by the time i got onto the dancefloor, half of armin's set was already over! :(
however, despite that little glitch in the nite, everything else was pretty good. i loved the set up of the two rooms all decorated with balloons, and it was wonderful seeing everyone all dressed in white for the occasion. all the partyers were definitely having a blast and everyone was sooo friendly, it was a nice vibe overall.
i enjoyed what i heard of armin's set - he played a lot harder at bal en blanc then he did at decadence in toronto, but it was different than his usual trancey set, so it was good.
i honestly do not remember much of pvd's set, because that time just passed by way too quickly for me! one minute i look up and there his is but the next time i look up he was gone already!! lol .. but from what i do remember of the tracks he played, they were good hard bangin tunes and enjoyable. however, i've seen pvd on better days, so in comparison to his abilities, he was average. [sidenote: for pvd to be the top dj that he is in the world right now, i expect him to be spinning music that blows my mind, but he's just not doing it for me these days and that's a big disappointment for me cuz i know he can do a lot better!!]
so after pvd, my friends and i ventured into the massage area, i had to wait close to an hour for my massage but i have to admit, it was well worth the wait and the money spent! :D i felt so relaxed and calm after the massage, i was in pure heaven for 20mins :D :D
then we made our way into deep dish and boy, was it packed! wow! i was surprise to see that the room was a lot bigger than the trance room. from what i heard of deep dish, the tunes were rockin. too bad i couldn't totally enjoy the sounds of deep dish because i spent over an hour wandering through the crowds looking for my friend, because i couldn't remember where he was! i never did find him though! haha, just decided to head back home where we met up again!
definitely fun times in montreal! :) too bad i never saw or met any of you ta's - probably because you were all in the vip section! :p unfortunately i wasn't so lucky! ;) but, all in all, i had a great time in montreal, it was a wonderful weekend getaway for me. thanks montreal! ;)
cheers :) |

1)set-up - different, balloony, white
2)sound - massive, clear, bangin'
3)djs - armin+pvd=hot! :D ;)
4)people - beautiful, friendly, vibe-ing!
5)montreal - european, cool, relaxing
6)funkenlouis - never met but i'm sure you're a great guy! :) also, no hard feelings in regards to the tix! ;) cuz it all worked out in the end!
cheers! :) |

Ok – I know this is a ~really~ late party review – but better late than never. I’m not going to bother completing the review to my satisfaction as it will take too long – lets just say that Bal en Blanc 2004 was the best party experience of my life. Please forgive my review being a little disjoint – as I wrote this in a doc file bit by bit over the last 3 months:
We got inside the convention center (Palais de Congres) about 11:30 PM with the VIP tickets – which let us into less busy bathrooms and a comfy VIP area with lots of couches and such.
I hung out and danced to Preach and the other opener waiting Armin – who was the reason I really wanted to attend Bal en Blanc to begin with.
Finally Armin started – and I didn’t feel so bad about not seeing him in Toronto at the Decadance event.
-----------------------
I stood in the DJ booth w/ Armin for nearly an hour.. I could have rested my balls on his record bag I was so close. Considering Armin is one of my favorite DJ’s – standing there was HEAVEN.
The whole experience culminated when Armin was flipping through his records and since I was standing right in front of him I saw saw filo & peri go by as he flipped - I said "Armin – Filo and Peri!".. He pulled it out put it in his play list then put his finger over his mouth to do the famous Armin "Shhhh".. 3 songs later he played Filo & Peri - i95
Standing behind Armin – watching 5000 people party, all dressed in white made me (truly) understand why someone DJs. Friggin’ amazing is all I have to say.
I left the DJ booth to go dance with the rest of the crew for the remainder of Armin’s set (Cuzo stayed in the booth for at least an hour longer).
After Armin’s set - I mentioned to him about me being the guy in #armind who asks him “interesting” questions and he laughed said my questions crack him up and shook my hand.
AvB was insane! IMO Armin is the best trance (progressive and otherwise) DJ (currently) by far. Armin will be the #1 DJ in the world within the next 2 years – mark my words.
-----------------------
From the dance floor I saw PvD was standing waiting for Armin's set to end and a bunch of people were lined up around a railing yelling "Paul, Paul"...
I grabbed 24_7 (Rich) and said "come with me, we're going to meet PvD" and we went and got up against the railing.
Paul was not paying attention to the people calling his name and had his back turned to all of us on the railing.
I yelled out "Paul Wei Gehtz" (Paul How Are you? (How goes it) in German).
PvD immediately turned around and looked at me and I repeated myself "Paul Wei Gehtz".
PvD walked over, shook my hand -- then shook 24_7's hand -- then walked away back to what he was doing. I didn’t see PvD didn't shake anybody else’s hand.
I went back to the dance floor to let loose to the last bit of Armin’s set – and then PvD took the stage and started with some great tunes.
At this point I wanted an up close look of PvD working the wheels so I went into the Aria area to get a birds eye view and found StereoPrincess (Margaret) already watching PvD do his work. We were both about 10 feet away from PvD on the decks.
Everything was magic, music was amazing, life was good – then peril struck…
PvD got pissed off because some girl ran into the booth (by hurdling the barrier) and kicked over his CDs that were sitting on the floor. she booted his across the floor of the booth. she tried to hop the railing from the Aria VIP and tripped Into the booth causing this ruckas.
After that I went back to the dance floor to finish it off. Unfortunately PvD had moments of brilliance – but it didn’t have what I need to get truly excited. PvD, clearly pissed off by this girl, disappeared in a cloud of smoke at the end of his set.
-----------------------
Bal en Blanc 2004 was the best party I have ever attended. Words cannot convey what it was –really- like to be there, what is was –really- like to experience the whole event.
Thank you so much to those who were with me, those who made the event special and those who shared such an amazing moment. I am indebted to you all for your friendship.
I know this review is jumbled, which it should be as it is a number of day’s stream of consciousness. This event wouldn’t have been 1/100th of what it was without my partners in crime being with me to share every little moment of brilliance.
I will see you all again every at BeB until I am too old to rock it out (which will hopefully not be for an eternity).
Fantastique as my fellow Quebecois would say. Indeed. |
