bart van wissen - distant region
subsky - four days
i always thought of a 'deep trance' genre separate of 'progressive trance', though most people would say that it doesn't exist - it's probably just old progressive trance. pretty much all the tracks sasha & digweed used to play back then fit in there, stuff like
sasha - xpander
albion - air
virtua trancer - sex after dinner
gypsy - i trance you (pappa & gilbey remix)
cygnus x - positron
*edit* remember that 'progressive trance' is a very broad term used to described very different stuff! by one side, it's so fused with progressive house that one can't tell which is which - example: pig & dan - jelly. by another, it's fused with uplifting: airwave - ladyblue (original). and there's even progressive-psy, which has a very large scene, can't think of a good example right now |

hm..i always thought cygnus x - positron was more like..harder trance or something...cuz it had sucha strong beat o_O. maybe i'm wrong then. :| |

As for "favorites" of the genre, I would propose the following as essentials:
Space Manoeuvres - Stage One
Bedrock - Heaven Scent
Sasha - Xpander (which you already have)
Tilt - I Dream (Tilt's Ressurection Mix)
Libra pres. Taylor - Calling Your Name (ORIGINAL Mix)
Andy Ling - Fixation (I'm assuming you wouldn't want overlap with Ishkur, but Fixation really is a class example of progressive trance)
And to a lesser degree:
Cass & Slide - Perception
Origin - Wide Eyed Angel
Sander Kleinenberg - My Lexicon
I could go on and on, but I'm trying to be as concise as possible. Tilt, John Graham, Bedrock, Breeder and Evolution were all the real heart of the genre until they all went dark when epic trance blew up (Except for Evolution, which still hangs on to a progressive trance sound). |

Also, I don't know if this warrants another genre, but there was a distinct class of music in the late nineties that belonged to Christopher Lawrence, Deepsky, X-Cabs, and Chris Cowie. The Hook label was the epicenter of the sound, with Fragrant close behind. There used to be a good concentration of it on the Psychotrance compilations. It was close to progressive trance, but too hard and acidy to be classified in the same category as the tracks I put in my last post.
Some key tracks are:
Deepsky - Stargazer (Original/X-Cabs Remix)
Deniro - Mind of Man
Christopher Lawrence - Renegade
Taylor - Slide
Joshua Ryan - Pistolwhip
Just something to look into if you're intent on being as detailed as possible. The sound was centered on the desert rave culture of the American southwest, mainly out of Southern California, before all the artists got caught in the progressive house movement (except for Lawrence, who generally stayed the course except got a bit harder). |

| Your hard trance choices are a bit to be honest. I'd recommend Scot Project- Overdrive and Altitude- Altitude (SHOKK Remix) rather than Yves Deruyter. |

Aren't these melodic? I'm placing them as hardstyle, which is what came from melodic trance and hard trance.

Yes, it's quite complicated to know what is what in this progressive mayhem indeed, specially now that progressive acquired a very popular status. I haven't heard these tunes yet, but I'm gonna check 'em out.
By the way, don't expect all tunes to fit exactly into one genre, as there's usually some influence among genres (thankfully).

Cheers :D Well, my problem with hip hop is that I don't know the genres: I know there's the "West Coast Hip-hop", the "East Coast Hip-hop", "g-funk" and so many genres... unfortunately neither allmusic guide nor Audiogalaxy's descriptions (R.I.P.) seem to be reliable.

Thanks for the info :) As for the unknown genre, I believe you may be talking about dark trance (I know some deepsky tunes that can be labelled as so), but I don't want to confirm before checking again.

edit: Well, I really don't meant our guides to overlap (Mine and Ishkur's) but it'll surely happen sometimes because we're talking about the same thing and I learn loads of thing from him :)

Garden of Eden is acid trance. As for the others, they end up being labelled in other sub-genres as well :)

I'm sorry to tell you that Break Beat + Psy-Trance doesn't exist. There are a very very very select few groups that incorporate some break beat and even elements of drum and bass in SOME of their songs but as an actual genre that is significant enough to even mention Break Beat + Psy-Trance isn't one of them. Please don't even bother or I will break a vase over your head ;)
As for psy-chillout (aka psy-ambient)...I included that in my update for you, quite a bit actually. As for plain ol' Ambient NOT related to psy-trance, I have no freakin clue.
