Finalscratch 1.1 or Finalscratch 1.5?

| Right now I am using Traktor Finalscratch version 1.1 and I am considering switching to version 1.5. I have heard mixed opinions on both of them and I was wondering wich one is the overall better choice. Any pros/cons or advice would be appriciated, thank you =) |

when i bought 1.1.3, it wouldn't even work on my laptop, so I downloaded the upgrade and installed 1.5 . . . on the laptop, 1.5 has skips, audio cutouts, and sometimes sketchy sound quality on top of sometimes 'not finding usb device' . . . I definitely wouldn't recommend it, I'm not sure if it's because I don't have a powerful enough machine or what. Somebody mentioned that it might be because i don't have the most recent service pack, so who knows.
Aside from the fact that it doesn't work on my laptop, and I have to use it on my tower (which is a pain in the ass) 1.1 has worked beautifully for me. Haven't have much trouble with it yet, and it's reliable. I wish I could get it to work on my laptop so it could be a little more portable, but it looks like I'm gonna have to get a new one . . .
Anyway, I couldn't tell you either way, but those are my experiences, and I've heard many of the same . . . go check the message boards at Stanton, there's quite a bit of ripping on 1.5. I'm guessing if you like reliability, stay with the linux version.

| Thank you ver much, that seems to be the trend, I think I'll end up sticking with 1.1, at least until I get a TI Powerbook to run it off of =P |

| I find that v1.5 is a lot less buggy than v1.1. A lot of problems I had before with v1.1 disappeared when I started using v1.5. |

| Marco Carola and Gaetano Parisio both use FS, and when they were here, a local DJ friend of mine was discussing FS with them. they say theyre sticking to 1.1, as they say 1.5 is way to buggy, and has caused a few problems in a couple of their shows. that it won't consistently do the job. |

You're definitely among the minority of TFS users then, just look at the message boards at NI and Stanton.
Along with releasing 1.5 too quickly without first debugging it properly, it runs natively in Windows, which is consistantly unreliable. I wouldn't trust it just because of that fact. Also makes you wonder how Serato's Scratch Live will perform in this environment.

I think you get a very skewed sample when looking at the support forums. Seriously just think about it. For the people who have everything working fine they usually don't post much on the board, if at all. Mainly you get users who either had troubles before but now are fixed and users who had troubles and still do. For people who getting working out of the box, they never go to the forums.
For me, 1.1 worked but I would get like a half second audio drop after spinning for about 30-40 min. I assume it was an Power Management issue with the harddrive becoming idle but I was never able to fix it. The 1.5 version does not have that problem and now my system works fine. I have not had it crash on me and I am able to record (with the same computer) long mixes without the problem I had before.
The current version is 1.5.4 which has some additional bug fixes but there are still people on the FS boards who have problems. |

I would only trust software thats running on a pc where the os is not based off of dos. For example i wouldn't trust: 95, 98, 98se, or ME running any important software. However M$'s newer operating systems that are based off of NT should be fine. Example: win2k, and xp w/ sp-1.
If you keep your pc in good matience (scan for spyware/virus, defrag, update, etc) it should be fine. Most of the problems i see w/ computers are caused by the owners not taking care.
You can have a linux box as messed up as a windows xp pc. Except, most h4x0r$ go after microsoft.
If your pc runs great and it's based of a NT os, you shouldn't have problems w/ the pc crashing b/c of the os. |

| i trust 2000 a lot more than XP. i wouldn't trust windows at all really with something this important, id go for Mac, but given the situation, Win2000 is your best bet IMO. |

You're definitely right, but many of the posts I've seen are from users who have already had good experiences with 1.0 and 1.1, and don't understand why Stanton released 1.5 with so many bugs.
The biggest problem with the situation is that its so objective--some people have enormous problems while others have absolutely none. My laptop is "perfectly compatible", yet it won't run 1.0, 1.1, and its pretty sketchy with 1.5. |
