So I took a test last Thursday in my management information systems class. Here's one of the true/false questions:

Having been using both e-mail and FTP for about 8 years now, I marked false. Apparently the professor says it's true. His powerpoint slides even say that e-mail attachments are sent via FTP. No.
I really don't think it's much to ask of a university professor that they put correct content on the slides.

yep, that's the protocol. and the attachments get embedded into different portions of the message (MIME portions, marked by MIME boundaries, blah blah blah) and the actual file gets encoded and stuck into one of those portions.

i think its SFTP and/or FTP, but im not completely sure.
if you wanna find out, get a software firewall monitor what ports are being used when you send an email with an attachment. Or try blocking port 21 and SFTP port.

Then why not show him why he's wrong? If you're afraid of retribution just make sure you take note of everything and then present it to the dean of that school. |
