Hello! This is my new track.
Any comments are welcome. Take into consideration that this is my very first track so dont be very strict :P
Also, plz write some tips that might help improve the quality of the track or any technical tricks i could use in general.
Thanks in advance! :) |

Hi,
I'll comment as I listen. I haven't heard the original, so keep that in mind.
Your low end bass drum is sounding a little hollow. The rim shots are fine if you're going for the light high-end percussion, but I think the low-end stuff needs a little more oomph.
Your intro is too long. Nothing happens until 1:20. As a DJ, I wouldn't want to transition into such an empty track. I need more elements.
This white noise/sharp effect that hits every other beat at 2:40 is insufficient.
The roll /cymbal wash at 3:05 isn't a bad effect.
I think we need more secondary synths. Your track is very minimalist at this point. I don't know what genre you would be wanting to do with this, but this would kill a dance floor, it's so minimal and ambient.
I'm not sure if you couldn't find a good acapella or what, but the vocals are being played in the background. I think they need to be featured prominently to make the track more robust.
That off-beat thing is there again at 4:50, I don't like it. It's just a little hitting noise; it's not a good way to add energy.
5:50 - bass line is too simple. It's jumping up and down a lot, which doesn't fit the mood you set for the first six minutes of the track. I almost feel like we're listening to really bad hardhouse instead of the more chilled approach we used before. The chime you have playing every eight beats almost sounds like an IM sound effect - go back to the drawing board on that one.
The way you're looping the vocal at 7:27 is way too jerky... try to find a way to smooth that out, I think you need to stretch the vocal to be longer so that it completes the loop.
This song is 10 minutes long, but you've only got about 4 minutes worth of material. Every segment is too long, with insufficient variation or elements. That said, it's a decent first effort. I know how hard production is, I've seen some of my frinds do it. Don't be discouraged by any of my comments; I'm just trying to give you as much feedback as I can so that you have lots of criticism to work with. It's a decent first effort, keep working on it and things will work out nicely |

Thanx for the comments!!! It's really cool that someone wrote down a review. Thanx again!
I understand most of your points. I had no intention of approaching a music style. This track is DEFINETELY NOT a dancefloor track! The most difficult part about this track was to edit the vocals. They sound so weird cause i've filtered them soooooooooo much cause there is no acapella for this track! I had to remove pianos, violins etc from the samples and it was the only way to do it. Vocals would be better if i had the acapella ;) (which doesnt exist :(). The rest of the points you've made are correct. Damn, its so confusing - when you are making sth and playing it over & over again, you get a bit brainwashed! There are some problems that i couldnt spot before. You also mention the difference between the beginning and the end of track. I think that the same happens with the original track. Listen to the original track and i think you'll spot this.
Oh, the way the vocals loop @ 7:30 is an imitation of the original track (although i had to remake the original sample cause i couldnt record it from the original track due to it's beat) so blame bjork for that :p
Thanx again,
cheerz :D
edit: i've made some changes to the track (it's a bit shorter now, edited the lyrics in the end, made the kick a little more boom-y). Here's the new link: http://users.ntua.gr/ge02136/hyperballad-01.mp3 |

The link is >>here<<.
@ hadi ******: heh, i wish there was an acapella m8! I've searched all over the net but an acapella for this track just doesnt exist. I've also sent an email to Little Indian records asking about the acapella but haven't got a reply yet. I think that you understand how difficult it was to use vocals from original tracks :S |
