It's just one big marketing stunt. They find the money just in time, everyone will his pants and think it will be the last loveparade. That's the way to attract a crowd.
I do hope the weather will be good this year. Hot & sunny = more drinks sold, more people attending and less clothes :) |

During the 2001 Loveparade it was crazy hot when I was there. Clear skies, sunny, but not humid.
I dunno JP, I think Loveparade Berlin may be finished. Clearly, they need to get their costs down though.
Edit: if the official parade is cancelled, I bet there will still be some sort of ad hoc get-together... maybe 100,000 people or so just chillin. |

The reason for that would have to do with event status and fees paid to local autorities to hold them. I doubt the fees to hold it in the past years were sizeable since it was considered a demonstration; much like an anti-war demonstration which costs nothing to hold and a little to organize. But now that it's viewed as a public event, the autorities want money to provide for street closures and police protection.
Oh well. I'm driving 400 miles north this September and to provide support for the first ever Loveparade in San Francisco. US TA's please attend to show these unenlightened American bitches our power!!! |
