Learning by looking and remaking? [specialized for FL Studio]

Hi,

after a couple of weeks, I began trying to make some "trance"-music on my own using FL Studio. My results are here:
http://www.sectionz.com/artist.asp?SZID=13321

or, if the above link doesn't work, do a member search for "uripui" there.

I'm not satisfied with the tracks I've made as the sound in general is terrible and the chords and melodies are terrible, too. Call it more experiments.

So, I've downloaded and installed Propellerheads' Reason Demo and downloaded the track "nexas" by Nigel Anderson. What a nice and sweet sound. Unfortunately, because I have only the demo version of Reason there are many important samples missing. But the main synths are there.

I tried to remake that tune using FL Studio (file is on sectionz, too). But, I can't make that sound Nigel has made. I've tried intensively. Without success.

I can't afford Reason. And I don't like the sequencing interface of Reason, too.

Then I tried to listen to some mp3-converted tracks from my personal cd collection, especially DJ Tiesto's "Magik 6" and "In search of Sunrise"-series. I've tried to copy that sound, melodies and chords to FL Studio. Even used Audacity for easy listening and lowering the playback tempo. ;-)) But, regardless how often I listend and tried to copy that, I've had no success.

I can't believe that's impossible to reach the same sound using FL Studio. But I need examples for that. Examples in flp-format.

Q) So, does anyone of you know real nice trance-songs (preferable progressive trance) in native flp-format? And preferably using just the internal synths and fxs, no vsts.

The flp-tracks hosted on sectionz by the other people are really nice and good, but not that sound I'm searching for (Trance like DJ Tiesto).

My big problem is that I don't have a broadband connection to the internet, just a 56k-connection, and even no flatrate (we've got to pay for every minute), so that I can't spend much time on the internet for searching. Downloading amateur and free mp3 from other hobby producers is impossible, too.

Listens stupid to you, I know, but my parents would not be really happy about a high telephone bill. Believe me, I've searched as much as I can, but have found nothing.

I would be really happy if there's someone who can help me there...

Thanks for reading and cheers,
Uri

PS.: Would be happy to hear some comments on my tracks hosted on sectionz. Even if they are not professional.

Well, welcome to the forum first off. If you are serious about production, you have just found your new home(page).

It is possible to use FLStudio as a tool to generate excellent high quality music. But you need to know how to use it. Clearly you realize that (as some dont) seeing as you have come here in search of help.

I would be happy to send you some flp files, but the only thing is, the sound quality wont be as good as tiesto, seeing as you require only native Fruity VSTi's. But all the chord progressions will be there.

I'd like to comment on your songs, but I really dont want to have to sign up for that site just to do it. I get enough spam as it is.

Would help yo know what version of fruity you have installed. Ill assume you bought it and have the latest version?

Just PM me your email address.

I don't remember who it was, but some1 made Tiesto's Traffic (i think) in FL using nothing but the 3osc synth. it's quite ingenious. you should search it up and download it. I've got alot of good sounding flps, but i'm no the type to share easily. . sorry.  :D :)

It was "kewlness" in the thread "3xosc competition...". Definately a great remake even if the melody1-line sounds a little bit too hard for my ears. But incredible how he made hihats out off the 3xosc. Real good track. Listening to the original at the moment.

My great wish would be sitting at the side of DJ Tiesto when he starts making a track from the first until the last note, the effect settings and mastering.

What must I do in order to "convince" you? ;-))

Thanks to you both for your replies...

I believe that person is me and it was suburban train not traffic :P

Dj Tiesto - Suburban Train

anyways, this is nowhere near the real thing but it shows just how much you can do with a single synth if you know how to use it properly...

I guess my main advice to you is, work on it. I have been producing on fruity for 3 years and I know that program inside out but I am still learning new things all the time

However, there are a couple things I recommend you doing first (and they both require downloading) and hopefully it won't take you too long... so i'll just send you the links

Download these free VST synths:
http://www.kvr-vst.com/get/708.html
http://www.kvr-vst.com/get/219.html
http://www.kvr-vst.com/get/214.html
http://www.kvr-vst.com/get/36.html
http://www.kvr-vst.com/get/123.html

for the vst synths, unzip/install the .dll file into your fruity/plugins/vst folder. Now add a channel, select more... and do a fast scan... click the checkboxes on each of the red synths... Now you can add those synths whenever you add a channel...

Take a good hour looking through this thread and downloading samples from the various links
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...&threadid=31549
To use the samples... simply put them into your fruity patches folder and make sure they are .wav form or else convert them into that format

Hopefully that will help... Good luck with producing.. and if you need help, you can e-mail/MSN me at jnlc_wu@hotmail.com and i'll give you a hand.

Hi Uri, welcome to the site. You've chosen one of the best sites in the world to learn from - my own productions have come on leaps & bounds since join TA.
Once thing that has helped me a lot is looking at some of the MIDIs of trance tunes. There is a sticky thread at the top of the production studio forum with LOADS in. Just download a few & import them into FL. Then you can start playing around with the synths & sounds. If you've got a decent melody sorted out, then its one less thing to worry about (you'll find it hard to get a decent sound if you haven't got a decent melody going!)

Good luck!
