Jag heter Sven, Jag kommer fran Ausralia
i'm getting there apart from the special characters (ä,å etc)
but the pronounciation is the hard part. |

Å is pronounced as the vowel sound in "raw",
Ä is pronounced as the vowel sound on "rare",
Ö is pronounced as the vowel sound in "sir".
the tricky part is to isolate the vowel sound if you use these words as a help. you would say "r" in rare and sir together with the vowel. if you can isolate the vowel sound you have a good pronounciation.
the words can help in remembering the Å,Ä,Ö with the phrase "raw or rare,sir".
there is a swedish page about all the different dialects. the good thing about it is that you can play sound clips with people talking swedish and getting the text so you can (hopefully) follow. this could be good in helping with your pronounciation. the bad thing that the page is about dialects, and you want to learn a neutral pronounciation. the södermanland - länna dialect is very neutral so maybe you can start with that just to get the sounds right. you will probably wreck your tongue trying to get it right but most swedes will understand you even if you have a heavy accent. some words will be almost impossible for you in the beginning. example: the swedish word for seven, "sju" is most often pronounced with sounds that you dont have in english. just say it as "shoe" and people will understand.
