T.O. cop extorted payoffs at clubs?

On Thursday, Bill McCormack Jr., son of former police chief Bill McCormack, was suspended with pay following a 14-month internal affairs investigation. He worked in the 52 Division plainclothes unit.
'A SHAKEDOWN SCHEME'
Sources said investigators are probing allegations that an officer has received "protection money" for years from up to eight bars and clubs in the Entertainment District, which 52 Division patrols.
In exchange for cash, not only was criminal activity allowed in the clubs but owners were tipped off about investigations into their establishments, sources alleged.
"It's a shakedown scheme," a source alleged. "They're taking payments to look after these places. There's a lot of bribing going on here."
Organized criminals, whom the source described as "old-fashioned boys," were also involved in the alleged shakedowns.
Clubs that were the focus of drug probes or Liquor Act violations were allegedly told when "police are on the way," the source said.
Last year McCormack told a reporter the police weren't working hard enough to battle biker gangs in the Entertainment District, where some clubs are believed to be paying 10% of their daily income as protection money.
Mark Pugash, the force's spokesman, refused comment yesterday.
ENTIRE SQUAD DISBANDED
Internal affairs is also looking into accusations that an officer received sexual favours from eight transvestite prostitutes, sources said.
One prostitute was recently charged with criminal negligence for allegedly spreading AIDS, a source said.
The 52 Division plainclothes unit was disbanded last week and the 14 officers who worked there -- in addition to the suspended officer -- were assigned to other divisions.
Those officers have been interviewed by internal affairs and cleared of any wrongdoing, said lawyer Gary Clewley.
"These guys are not suspects," Clewley said. "These are decent, hard-working cops and (the accusations) have cast a bad light on them."
McCormack, who could not be reached for comment, has not been charged and none of the allegations have been proven.
Other officers are also being investigated.

Again, its amazing the that people think they can say in public. Im all for freedom of speech but libel is not freedom of speech. Its a criminal offence. Not only are you accountable for libel but so is this website.
If i turned around and said that you were a criminal and alleged that your did criminal acts without proof you could have me charged for libel as well (saying it vocally is called slander)
And i know im going to get the groans and whines from the usual bunch of kids but im saying it for your own good. Think before you speak.
PS: i hope you never garner a position of importance because talking like this will definately get you into hot water one day. |

1.illegal activities take place inside clubs(guv included)
2.bouncers recieve payoffs(dont know what for)
3.jayx1 is a weenie

grow up, and stop being over protective of your place of employment. Bad things happen there, we all know it, and if proof was needed, it could be gathered the 1st all access event after said date.
I think ill bring a camera, and take photos of dealers, people doing drugs and employees smoking up.
Im not saying they dont happen other places(CZ, Film, Boa, SS etc) because they do, but nobdoy over at their camps decides to spout their mouths off like you do. |

Id say the same thing about any other club. Im sick of people on one hand making dangerous allegations and then on the other complaining when there is nothing to do in Toronto

For the record. My place of employment is irrelevent. I have my own mind and i have made many a post disagreeing and agreeing with some things at the club. I have also made many posts both positive and negative about places like boa and film.
You are barking up the wrong tree with that one my friend. Im just calling it as i see it and again i will say that you are lucky that you have never made any unfounded allegations against me. |
