It's like this...I live by myself and I pay my own bills. I work to live. I work to pay bills. I don't work for $$$ to go out and party. I feel like I have no life because of it. I go to work at 8am and there are times that I don't leave there until 7pm. How long are you in school? All day? My day consists of work and if I am up for it...going to the gym. I don't go out during the week because I can't afford to be tired the next day. I have tons of responsibility on my shoulders and even though it's cool...it can be a bit much at times. If I didn't have a house I would be in an apartment. Either way...my money would be spent. I used to have money left over to enjoy life with, but that's back when I lived with someone and the bills were shared. Enjoy things while you can because it doesn't get easier unless your schooling paid off and you are making a ton of money. Go into the mortgage business. Seriously. Those people bank.

ive had days at school from 7am - midnight...and im not arguing that my day is harder than urs, but im saying that ur actually making money..see u have ur own house, thats the payoff for u, i dont have a payoff, and if u didnt live in ur own house, ud have all the money in the world to go out...

but to put an end to this, which one of these would u want
a) tuition of 8k (or whatever..thats just what im paying) = net income of -8k
studying all the time, living at home, no car, no money to go out, if u study right, a couple night free

b) work with NO homework, but more tiring when u are actually at work and net income of say 40k

if u had to choose one of those, what would u take? my argument is just that work is way better cuz ur getting money, not that its harder or easier or anything, and when u sum it all up, id rather be working

edit: and i guess the living w urself makes expenses = crazy, but imaging trying to pay that off while in school..its impossible

School so that I could go back and do it all over. My days are pretty much the same and will be unless I change jobs...which really doesn't interest me right now. I have no money to go back to school and I really don't have much of an option to change jobs at this point. You still have options. Try living by yourself...for even just six months. You would understand after that. You are still young so it is only normal for you to complain. I feel your pain because I have been there, but right now you can't fathom mine. I have been laid off twice already in my life. Try living by yourself and worrying about how you are going to pay your mortgage and car payment because you don't have a job. Not fun. I even had to pay taxes again this year. Just plain sucks.

Oh...and by the way...don't think people don't take work home with them. Tons of people do. I even go in on the weekend and yes I do bring work home.

im second year uni student btw

Stress never caused me health problems until after HS. in fact, if you measure stress by how much money i have spent on doctors to alleviate the pain, the most would be attributed to after college. but that is just me.

Well, you can call my case a mixture of work/study...

I've wanted to make a thread about my prob a long time ago, but I didn't cause would prolly get flamed orso :)

Well I'm almost 23 now and I'm still studying, as a fact, I just began again. I did 1 sabat year (bad move) 3 years ago while I tried my first year of informatics.
After that year, I studied informatics for another 2 years (got in the second year out of 3) but I quitted cause I was so fed up with informatics. Programming, non stop computer thingies, I totally lost interest... I mean, it was like an overdose of that , no more, ever !
Now I'm in my first year again, I like the things I learn (economics, always liked it) but I'm desperate on money/freetime/other 'horizons'.
I need money, I want to do stuff, I want to work and get further without having to worry about school.
Almost 23 and still in the first year with 3 more years ahead IF I would pass.

I try to talk about it with friends but they don't get the picture.
My parents heard about it via my brother but I couldn't tell em. I lied I was doing fine, cause I know they will be sooo disappointed.

I hardly sleep 3-4 hours a day cause I don't know what to do. I lay in my bed rumbling around. Thinking of what could happen...

I call it stress, my heart goes on a rampage sometimes, I drink alot, way too much in weekends to 'forget' the etc.

oh yes pictures of kittens

ah well ,cary on

Yeah so yeah the stress of "growing" up ..

In the past week my car engine seems to have died ( but I'm lucky that my parents who are out of the country for a couple months had a car I could use ) ; cell phone died ( but I fixed it ! go me ) ; and I just got a speeding ticket last night ( it's gonna be around 200 bucks )

Things could be much worst for me; so I musn't complain. Getting my own place last month was less painful then I imagined.

Id rather take my cost of living down by having a total POS car, live in $300 a month craphole, and going to a community college for a few years if not getting on financial aid or something. There is no reason to be working your ass off to have a house or a big car or anything unless you have a family to support.

I dont want to be 40, getting up at 6am to put on a shirt and tie, and as I stare blearily into the bathroom mirror realize this is all ive been doing for the last 20 years.

You aint dead, but you sure as hell aint livin'

I don't have a POS car, but it's not exactly phat either. Damn sure isn't a "big" car. If I had a POS I would worry about spending money on repairs. If my car was in the shop how would I get to work? What would be the point? I don't own a huge house. Not by any means. But, who in their right mind wants to spend on an apartment what they could on a house payment? If you live in an apartment add up how much you spend each year on rent. That adds up after a while and you have nothing to show for it because the apartment isn't yours. If you own a home you can always turn around and sell it. My house is worth almost $40,0000 more than I owe.

Mortgage = equity
Rent = nothing

by pos I mean a cavalier with 30k miles on it or something. they run 2.5 grand and are reliable.

yeah, my brother bought a house when he was 20. so that was 4 years ago. its a $450,000. he makes $120,000 a year though, so hes paid it off right?

Guess what Ive been doing since 2000 when he bought his house. I spent 3 months in Europe, took a road trip to Malibu for a few weeks, regularly spend the weekends several hundred miles away partying, etc. Im always off doing something. Ill be starting Law School soon. So im not even gonna be out of school until im 26.

He refinanced his house too. So he bought at 350,000 from these old people, and got it estimated at 450,000 from appraisers. so he could sell RIGHT NOW and have a 100,000 in his pocket.

Who does that though. No one. Because a house is awesome. Its gold for life. its also a huge anchor, and unless you are ready to commit every day every week every year to making house payments on time so as not the shred your credit, dont get one. A few years renting IS wasted money, unless you are saving saving saving so when you decide its time to settle down you can do so.

My brother has NO life because he works so hard. 4k a month in payments. He aint goin no where. I might be going to Japan this summer, maybe my friends and I are gonna start a small coffee company. We have that freedom. We can try something and fail, and we wont lose our house if we go broke.

You have the rest of your life to waste on scrabbling for stuff. Spend this one precious decade LIVING. Your body will never be this good again, your mind this sharp, your friends as close.

Dont tie yourself down, have fun, make some mistakes, and then get yourself together. Its like the story of the Princess who wanted to ride a lion, so while one was sleeping she hopped on. It woke up and took off only making her realize that she could never let go or shed get off and it would kill her.

This stuff just adds and adds and adds until youre up to your neck in payments and fighting deadlines, and meeting goals, and...oh man, I was going to call John last month, i havent seen that guy in two years...man we used to have fun... gotta get to work ill do it when I get home.

screw that. Im sick of this B-line towards early retirement and death at a young age that everyone in America is doing...

bah
