Tbh those religious freaks are crazier imo, since they're, well, supposed to know better due to the society they live in. When I put it that way it seems as if I'm saying the people of New Guinea are uncivilized because of their culture, which is not what I believe. I guess a better way to say it would be...because those parents live in a society that says it's wrong, it's worse that they're doing that. Which is not to say that whatever society says is right must be right.
Hrmm...O.K. howabout this: The boys that live in the New Guinea society are probably going to be less likely to suffer later on in life from psychological damage because that sort of practice is considered the norm. However, the boys that have the religious fundamentalists as parents are more likely to grow up with severe psychological problems once they find out that what happened to them isn't the norm at all. |
