| I listened to mainstream pop and rock and all the mtv stuff for a long time. As a Dutchie I unavoidably came in contact with Tiesto, and his Magik 6 set and his Trance Energy 2000 set. That kinda started it, but I'm still a n00b when it comes to Trance. I just listen to it, don't really get into all the different types although I try to listen to a lot of variety. |

| I joined this site a few months back, and I downloaded all the songs offered in the DL section. I divided them all into three folders, stuff I liked, stuff that was OK, and stuff I didn't understand how this could be music. The more I listen to trance though the more my tastes are changing, and I find myself constantly going back and moving stuff from the "how could this be music" folder into stuff I like. This is all after only a couple of months, trance really grows on you and is definitely a required taste.:p |

most people:
ta in training:dj sammy, darude, other cheese, often calls everything techno
senior TA:G&D
i first heard of trance when i was on irc and then someone said www.di.fm and then a new di.fm noob was born, I listened to doboys sets, I created my own mix in some noob mixing program of some classics like lesperanza and some other song which I didnt know were classics then
I also heard cheese such as castles in the sky in the trancequility vocal "set" I thought it was ok nothing special so basically im cheese free
i dont see how people can find cheese no name DJ's before finding huge trance producers
before any of that i listened to stuff like korn, mase, and other billboard stuff, mo money mo problems
one of the first sets ive heard was even before doboy it was a binary finary set? I don't know, but either way i thought it was boring and i was amazed that there was a 60+ minute song |

this was my taste evolution, starting when I was 8 years old 14 years ago:
Baroque (Bach)> Classical (Haydn & Mozart)> early Romantic (Beethoven)> late Romantic (Brahms)> high Modernism (Stravinsky & Shostakovich)> 1996 Underworld> big beat (Fat Boy Slim, Prodigy, the Chems)> underground hip hop> drum and bass >minimalism and post-modernism (Reich, Young, Adams)> TIESTO 1998>progressive trance and the glory of 99 (Sasha, Ferry, Armin, Oakey)>the Twilo days (PvD)> Tiesto 2001-2003> techno>prog house> nu-breaks> tech house> ???
this is not really linear, because i still listen to everything i listed. but it's an approximation of how my taste has developed. |

| Started with Zombie Nation, then PPK, then Absolute Euphoria in 2002. After that a lot of trance, then FSOL- Papua New Guinea introduced me to breaks, and it all snowballed. |

hmmm
everything i would call "noisemusic" on mtv (rock) so i could jump around in the couch (kid) > michael jackson > guns 'n' roses > nirvana > euro dance (capella etc) > hiphop > some more trance-like euro dance (dj quicksilver) > trance (itwt001) > funky house & trance in 99 > more different styles of electronica like techno, prog > now enojoying all kinds of stuff, deep house, breaks, electro, techno, prog house, trance, downtempo stuff... |

I started out liking bands like green day, the offspring, nirvana, the smashing pumpkins, silverchair, bush, and radiohead...
I was very much into the "grunge" and 90's alternative scene...
then fatboy slim put out his first album and it was over...
i still maintained my love for rock music, but i went from fatboy, to crystal method, and the chemical brothers and that led the way to some jungle and D&B....mainly dara, andy c, micro, and aphrodite...
later i got into trance, which has been the love of my life as far as music is concerned, and through that i started getitng into break beats...mainly dj icey and baby anne...
during the whole trance phase i got into reggae a lot, and ive also kept that up
so thats my story |
