If your pc is actually capable of running Vista, it runs ALOT faster, and more stably. I don't get everyone who hasn't used it on a decent machine bagging it? Like people complaining that media player uses half their ram and CPU cycles just to play mp3s when my CPU usage sits on 1%? Oh well, different strokes for different blokes. |

both are untrue.
vista is definitely slower.. and for gaming, if you're on nvidia forget it, with ati (which i do happen to be with) gaming should be reasonably on par with xp these days, yes.
given on xp my pc is 100% stable, vista couldnt possibly or even theoretically be more stable, can only argue that it would be more unstable, but I dont' think that's the case, so I would put it to be as stable.
compatibility isn't there, biggest issue I noticed.
and I have tried vista... from the betas, to the rc's, to the final. and it's not quite ready, maybe next year with a service pack.... |

Try using a decent graphics card. I have a Geforce 8800GTX card, and it runs EVERYTHING beautifully at 2560x1600 with most stuff except FSAA cranked. So point 1 null and void.

I've been running Vista for a few weeks now and EVERYTHING runs better, and I've managed to get it to crash once, but that was with prime95 running on my CPU when I'd overclocked it without boosting voltage enough. I'd say that's abit more stable than XPs shoddily tacked on multicore support. LOL.

What was incompatible exactly? Blizzard DOS games that require IPX networking to LAN? Yeah, that's abit of a bummer since I wanted to play Diablo 1 with my brother a few weeks ago but ho hum. Vistas hardware compatability is FAR better, the driver range is MASSIVE (laser printer & fax, along with various other bits and bobs) were detected and installed by Vista, and even the driver updates in Windows Update work perfectly.

Yeah I was running a couple of the releases of Longhorn that MS made publicly available, had some issues with those I must admit but beta software is beta software. With my Intel Quad, nVidia card, everything runs noticably faster. XP is for older machines, well known fact. Bitch and moan all you like, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. |

yeah, you can run everything totally fine in vista with your system... i'm not disputing that, and all my games would be perfectly playable too...
if you were to go back to xp though, looks like your games would be upto 30% faster, and even more in opengl.. although hopefully nvidia have closed the gap since then...
and since you've got a 8800, surely you know about all the compatibility issues with that card on vista... (stalker, call of duty...)
edit: looking at the date of that article it is old, back from february, so surely the gap is closer! but I know that nvidia is still trailing in driver performance in vista against xp.

how's that more stable than something that's already stable? it's as stable...
fact is, vista compatible drivers are relatively new, unlike mature xp drivers, you're more likely to experience instability in vista.
and since we're both obviously stubborn, i'm sure we could go back and forth all day, so i wont reply any further. lol :) |
