Proof refs have it in for the Leafs!!

If game2 wasnt enough proof, here is something
of interest:
Brian Leetch's PIM:
2000-01 82GP, 34 PIM, 0.41 PIM/G w/NYR
2001-02 82GP, 28 PIM, 0.34 PIM/G w/NYR
2002-03 51GP, 20 PIM, 0.39 PIM/G w/NYR
2003-04 with NYR: 57 GP, 24 PIM, 0.42 PIM/G
2003-04 with TOR: 19 GP, 15 PIM, 0.74
Small sample size, yes, but the numbers are interesting:
His PIM have gone up 75% this season since joining the Leafs, despite the fact he's on a better team, has the same amount of ice time, and plays in front of a better goaltender. He has a good reputation. What's changed other than the uniform that he wears? |

The proof is there!! What did he all of a sudden change his game after playing the same way for 15+years?? Fact is Leafs have a rep. in the league, to the refs...same goes for Quinn |

This is just a dumb argument, what has changed besides the team?? how about the total difference in style of play, his linemates, his use, his minutes played, his role. The leafs play a hard-nosed style and the rangers never did. On the rangers he was a puck carrier and a PowerPlay specialist. On the leafs he is paired with McCabe who is very physical and they both play a ton of minutes against the other team's top players. When you have a player that goes up against big scorers and quick players his amount of clutching, grabbing, hooking, etc... is bound to increase, thus his pim's are bound to increase as well. You can't judge a guy by the 19 games he has played. Thats like judging the flyers players PIM's on their game against Ottawa when both teams combined for 410 PIMs. If you are going to establish a direct correlation between his pims and Toronto's reputation at least use facts from the to avg. and a larger sample size than 19 games. I'd say at least 50 games is necessary |

Teams get a rep for a reason. Whether it's a whiney coach or dirty players.....refs remember jackasses and give them what they deserve.
Just like montreal doesn't get as many calls their way because the refs know some of their players are divers.
Overall NHL refs do an amazing job considering the abuse and fast pace of the game. I love how everytime the leafs start losing, the leaf fans scramble for outward excuses.......maybe they just don't have as good a team....or atleast fall on the injury excuse...that one atleast everyone could agree on. |

Correlation is not Causation...
Take this arguement:
Correlation does not imply causation. Because two variables are correlated does not mean they have influence on another to cause an increase or decrease in that variable
Ice cream consumption and increase in violent crime. As ice cream consumption goes up so does the violent crime rate.
Is there causality between these to measure or do both occur because of warm weather?
It seems Leaf Nation has that nasty disease...Excusitis!

they sure do....a rep for being the biggest whiners and moaners in the league....nobody has it in for them - and if they spend more time worrying about putting the puck in the net, and less about moaning about why they didnt deserve to lose, then maybe they'd have actually won something since 1967....boo-ing-hoo.... |
