why i hate/love live sets

just felt like adding this - not necessarily related to anything in general - well actually it sort of is. this is something i have noticed from now to when i began listening to live sets on mp3. at first they were this amazing thing -songs and the reactions they recieved in usage. now i rarely listen to them. i dont know why tho, maybe my attention span is just too short. it just seems that u cant do justice to these things without context. we have music and screaming that's about it. no club, no crowd, no dj, no atmosphere. all u can do is imagine or listen to what people say about it second hand. tiesto can bust out some set with all the badass songs nobody heard live and i can listen to it - or i can go to a frat party(this has happened but not at UM) where the dj busts out unknown house and prog house tunes and i will have so much fun it's rediculous. im not connecting this idea to enibriation, although they are invariably linked in some way - just disregard the 'frat party' phrase. i guess what i am getting at is that the live experience is more rewarding and enjoyable than any mp3 could ever be. and besides my hard drive is only so big. ha. peace. tell me what.

Personally I listen to livesets on mp3 to 1)hear the new tracks and discover them, 2)hear the mixing job (im just starting out djing and i think it's important to see and know how other djs do they're job ;)) .. i'm not trying to recreate any atmosphere and all these stuff .. to have great atmosphere, I PARTY OUT! (RAVES!!) :) CYa man

(this thread brought nothing new but i felt like posting my comment :))

itz great to listen to live setz from placez yo would have no chance in hell to get to *ahem*Oakey in Cuba*ahem*.

itz not about reliving the whole live atmosphere of the party that the set took place in, rather itz just listening to a fluid and seamless set of music we all love and enjoy.

In regardz to your HD not having enough space, well...can alwayz get a CD-recorder and archive them for later listening.

another good thing about getting live sets is, if you HAD gone to that show/event. Getting that set, and listening to it, makes you relive that moment of your life (hopefully a good moment).

Thats cool. I was sort of joking about the HD space thing. I realize they are valuable. I have never been to any of these places, although I may have heard or seen some of these artists live, but those sets/dates have not been mp3ed maybe thats why I cant really relate. As for listening to them to figure out how to mix well - wouldnt you be better off listening to crap so you can find out what NOT to do? hehe. just a thot. Who cares if this isn't anything new to the forums? I just get sick of categories like "Which live set is your favorite?" cause then people throw a name out without discussing anything. Topics are a lot more interesting when people give an opinion and back it up, not just say something and move along. Thanks peeps. peace.
ps.if u couldnt tell i like to explain(and give!) my opinions.

Yeah you're right about the "thing to NOT do" listening bad djs .. but hey i'm not crazy .. I like listening good music too :) so why not listening great music AND see how they mix instead of seeing what to not do and thinking all the time "WTF BRITNEY SPEARS IN A TRANCE LIVE?!" (i've heard it ;)) Cya man!

oh and btw you're right about the no discussion thing and only posting something to have more post and no more be a "Trainee" ;) Cya guys!
