computer help needed to change internet settings.

somehow my internet start page was changed and i cant seem to set it back to the one i used to have. i can change it and it works until i restart my computer, then it is back to the wrong one. and it is not even a real page just a lot of numbers and %s. i get redirected to some search-town.net. also instead of getting the "page not found" i get redirected to some internet-optimizer site telling me that it cant be found.

so, i have tried to reset my settings but it only works until a restart. oh, i just realised as i am writing this, i think i have my "system restoration" (dont know the english term, my windows is swedish) set to off due to that my computer is filled to the brim at the moment. could this be the reason? if so, can i change the internet settings permanently without turning it on?

any help is much appreciated!

Did this happen after clicking on a link to porn or something?

What ISP do you use?

HEHE, regarding the porn. YOU KNOW YOU WERE DOING IT. DON't LIE!

Okay, I'm no computer pro, or anything, but this happened to me once, and here's what I did...

I cleared all my temp. internet files, cookies, Internet Explorer history, and all of that...

then went back and reset my internet home page.

Then reboot and try again.

Hope ya figure it out!

We need a sticky thread for this becuase it's like a daily event. First off it's caused by spyware. You either got it from installing "free" software or surfing porn sites with IE. 100% guarantee solution to remove this stuff is to reinstall Windows and don't engage in the behavior I've described.

Also refrain from using Internet Explorer. Use Mozilla Firefox instead.

Firefox is faster, has tabbed browsing, and is more secure than IE.

It also blocks the popups that install that kind of software|
