old turntable is playing slow

So i decided to give my discs a little test on my parents' old stereo (from the early 80's). I couldn't get it to spinning, so i took off the platter and saw the "thing" that connects the engine to the platter was cut off - replaced it by another one from another turntable that doesn't work. Now finally i can listen to my discs, even if that thing has a really strange way of working. :) The biggest problem is that... the records sound like they're pitched down a bit, like -4% or so. Any ideas on how to fix that?

This should take care of the problem.....

no :p

i'm getting a real dj turntable for the summer but for now i just wanna know how to get this thing working correctly so i can hear my discs

another detail: it seems that in the beggining it was playing slower, now that i played it more and more testing all my records it seems to be getting better and right now it sounds like it's at the right speed! dunno if my ears are playing tricks on me :wtf:

and the problem are not the rpm's, if i play the disc at the wrong rpm it sounds totally wrong :p

What are these disc's you speak of... You are suppose to play records or vinyls... :haha: ;)

did you check the 33 45 turn per minute button ?

Maybe your playing a 45 turn disc at 33 so it look real slow ??

Maybe it the table too :P

as i said above, it's not the rpm's! i can tell the difference between a 33 record and a 45 record .. it's a bit more subtle ..

belt = the "thing" that connects the engine to the platter? (i'm so not good with these turntable 'terms', haha) already replaced it, perhaps the fact that the 'new' one is shorter than the one that used to be there may be the problem.

Well, your supposed to match the old belt to the new belt so they should have been about the same size, but the old one may be a bit bigger if it got streched out. I'd look at the manual (if any) that's with the table to make sure you got the right type of belt.
