| The corporate promoters didn't know the simple fact that 80-90% of people that go to massives don't buy their tickets until the day of. And the fact that the tickets started at $35 didn't help either. |

| quote: | MEKKA SUMMER TOUR POSTPONED
New York, NY – August 1, 2001 - After a lengthy and difficult deliberation, Mekka Entertainment today announced that it will
postpone its summer tour, set to kick off this Saturday August 4th in Detroit.
The postponement comes after months of preparation. As the tour approached it became apparent that despite hard work and
co-operation and support from people across North America, Mekka would not be able to present the events at the level it had
envisioned. The Mekka collective cites numerous reasons for the postponement, the most immediate being time for planning.
“It’s impossible to put the blame on anyone, it’s no one’s fault” said a Mekka spokesperson yesterday. “Everyone on the team
has put their hearts into making this happen, but when it came down to it we just didn’t give ourselves enough time to put it
together. The team is an amazing collection of people, who have all been completely dedicated. While the concept’s been under
development for over a year, the actual production and promotion of the tour started too late.”
While the decision to postpone the tour was a surprise to most, Mekka is encouraged by the response it has had from its
partners and supporters in the community. “Our model is artist based – we did not want to go ahead with the tour as we saw
that the talent would not be presented in a way that they deserved,” says Mekka’s talent director. “The agents, managers, and
promoters we’ve worked with along the way see that this decision is for the best, and they’ve made clear that they’ll support us
with our plans for the future.”
Mekka outlined that the postponement of the tour does not hinder future plans, including music production, more events, a
community website and more. “We’ve had tremendous support from everyone,” said the Mekka spokesperson. “You just have to
go onto the website or look in the papers to see that the community really wanted this to happen, and they were behind the
concept all the way. What’s made this decision particularly difficult is that we know we’re disappointing so many people, but
we’ll keep working to give something to this amazing community.”
Mekka would like to thank the artists and agents, regional promoters, the media, and the electronic music community for their
support through the development of this project. Many artists and management agencies have committed to fulfilling Mekka’s
vision to produce a tour of this magnitude in North America in the summer of 2002.
People who have already purchased tickets are advised to return to the point of purchase for full guaranteed refund. |
Too bad, I'm not sure if I have the faith for next years event. I'll go if Creamfields comes back also.
