and yeah, right here in the Pioneer Valley we have a similar railway-->bike path thingy goin, goes through a buncha towns, though nowhere close to near as long as that one in Ohio

Chris,

Whiskers would like to know where the Pioneer Valley bike path thingy is...

and he says, thank you (in advance) for answering. :)

(ps he would have asked you about this himself but he's temporarily unable to post ;) )

my roommate is a cyclist, gonna take a peek at what kind of bike he has (supposed to be one that costs like 2.5k USD or something, i don't know anything about bikes).

he's got a specialized allez = this thing seriously weights like 2 pounds or something.

and he's got this cool mtn bike with disc brakes!!.. how bad ass is that.

Do you know what kind of allez? I've always liked the cr-mo, I just haven't ridden a Specialized that fit me very well. I do like Cipollini though, and he rides Specialized bikes. He's the Dennis Rodman of the cycling world.

it goes from northampton to amherst. it kinda goes along route 9, and behind walmart and the hampshire mall.

I live in Ohio, and one advantage of living here has been their extensive "rails to trails" program, where they convert old rail lines into multi-use bike paths. I can ride virtually anywhere in the state on bike paths and not have to worry about sharing the roadway with mean people driving cars.

Here's a kind of outdated map, but you get the idea

Lol, we have more bikeways than highways here in Holland. The bike is an actual means of transportation here, and we don't use fancy schmancy bikes, coz they get stolen more easily :p

Yeah, I've visited Amsterdam/The Netherlands and I was impressed by the amount of biking going on. However, you guys have a few advantages over there.

1. It's pretty damn flat most places.

2. Your population density is 1,000 people per square mile. Ohio's density is 277 people per square mile, and the United States' population density is 78. In other words, using a bike as a means of transporation is much more feasible in the Netherlands because there are more people covering less space.

3. Because biking is much more feasible as a means of transportation, more money goes into making bike paths and maintaining them. Here in the States bike trails are mainly only for recreation, all of our transportation money goes towards roads.

Also, when my bike is not on the road, under my ass, it's inside my apartment, so I'm not too worried about it being ripped off.
