Problems with recording the set with Cool Edit

I've tried to search on this topic, found lot of matches, but nobody seemed to have the same problem as I do. I am trying to record a set from 2 techs to my computer. I am using Numark CM200 mixer and Cool Edit 2.0 The problem that I have is that sometimes it seems that the mixer is "overloaded" which causes distortion and the recorded set sometimes sounds as if there is too much base. When I was recording at my friends place I did not have this problem. He has a Vestax mixer and same Cool Edit as I do. So is it the problem with my mixer/sound card, or I can set up the software somehow so that I don't have to manually reduce the base on every single track?
Thans in advance for ur answers :) |

Check your vu-meters....
Or record at a lower volume, that might just solve the problem... |

| turn the gains down and experiment with less mixer volume and more amp volume, so the volume stays lowere when going into cool edit |

| Make sure the input levels of your soundcard are configured correctly also. The soundcard's input levels can add a lot of distortion |

| make sure you have the peak meters on in cool edit (view menu), then press f10, put some music on on the decks and go to your recording volume controls on your system tray. move the fader on the volume controls until it no longer peaks on the meter in cool edit :) |
