Please Give Some Advice About Buying TT's

Hello :)

I'm a producer and spend just about all of my money on synths/gear etc.

But instead of buying my next synth, I wanted to put some money down for 2 turntables and a mixer (vinyl). My problem is that I don't wanna spend a huge amount on DJ equipment because this is definatley something I wanna do on the side...not at clubs- just kind of a hobby, bedroom mixing, maybe a few parties etc.

Now, I have been told that the ONLY way to go would be Technics/Vestax. My problem is that I just don't want to spend that much on turntables. For example, I'd be up to about 1000$ for a technics/vestax set.

The reason for that is because all other brands ie stantons/numarks etc start wavering pitch in a year or two.

I was debating between two diff types:

Stanton STR8 80's or Numark TT200's

Both are priced at 200 each. Which would be the better buy? Or is that true that ANYTHING else besides technics/vestax are wastes of money?

If you have the money you'll be better off with the techs. They last forever and maintain their value pretty well. If you look around you should be able to find a pair for 600-700.

Yeah but 600-700 isnt really in my budget mate cause thats around 800-900 with mixer + cables :(

I was looking to spend like 500. But if the numarks/stantons suck that bad..let me know. I just kinda want to know how they compare to technics/vestax :)

I haven't used any turntables besides Technics because I have been warned by so many people the quality of any other turntables. They say they have real bad pitch adjusts and won't hold up. I have heard of a pair of Stantons being thrown off the table in the middle of a show by a rather reputable DJ. He went out to his car, brought in a pair of Technics, hooked it all back up and continued on. I guess he insisted on Technics too.... You can find some good deals on used ones if you keep your eyes open. It would probably be in your best interest to save a little more, go with the reliable choice and be happier in the end.

My TT-200s lasted me 6 months before i gave in and bought my tecnics. i said the same thing you did, wanted to spend the same money you did, tried to talk myself into cheaper ones the way you are, etc.

lucky for me i sold them for a couple of bucks less then i paid for them.

buy the technics. dont go through this twice. do it once and worry about spinning.
