| I ate fiddlehead ferns appetizer at a fancy restaurant last year thought about grabbing some popping up, but after googling I thought better of it cause there are some poisonous species. Anyone try them they're quite good, taste like asparagus. |

This spring I've been paying more attention to the ground. It's really neat to see them come out of the ground. From what i've read you need to get them before they open up and become toxic. They have a nice delicate earthy taste. They're only in an editable state for a short time.

scouting has taught me somewhat what you can eat growing in the wild. i haven't eaten fiddleheads in the wild yet, though.
though i did eat so much miner's lettuce that my spit turned green and i had diarrhea, but no one wants to know about that, do they? ;) |
