Is Astral Projection popular nowadays? Are there any good goa/psy trance artists or albums?
tranceDJ
They're still pretty popular. They released a new album last year called 'amen'. Just do a search here for "psytrance" or check out www.psynews.org for more goa/psy artists.

Goa doesn't exist anymore...it has turned into psy-trance.

Goa was psychedelic trance with emotion...now what is left is beats, heavy rolling basslines, psychedelic effects and little stupid melodies that come in and out...Goa has lost it's way.

Astral Projection sold out with "Amen" hopefully they will get back to their Goa roots and stop trying to fit in with this new wave psy-trance crap...god help us.

Pardon? The main gripe about Amen was the fact that it sounded way too much like Astral Projection always has, and that it added nothing new and refreshing to their oldschool sound. How is this "fitting in with the new wave psy-trance"?

Goa, in general, is dead. However, AP is good. Amen is a great album actually, don't let people discourage you from buying it!

I also recommend Infected Mushroom.

Most of the people on psynews.org and other psy sites didn't like the fact that the music was so empty and that it lost it's overtly melodic feel aka their old sound. Yea there is still some good ol' AP there but the sound has been watered down a bit too noticably.

I also recommed them...they are the only thing in the psy-scene that remains truly orignal and daring.

The Gathering (1999)
Classical Mushroom (2000)
BP Empire (2001)
Converting Vegetarians (2003)
Untitled New Album (Release Date: September 2004)

Classical Mushroom & BP Empire are probably 2 of the best works of psy-trance ever...in a class of their own.
