But on the same topic...I wonder how much the Canadian commercials cost just out of curiosity... |

even if you watch friends on NBC, you will most likely still get commercials from Global and not the ones from the states that are usually worth watching... |
Watch the HDTV channels and you'll get the US commercials. |

| I understand it's advertising a product, and getting thier brand out there. BUT - lets say a dawn dish soap commerical is aired (hehe first thing I though of) for 2 million, dawn will make some money off that commercial because ppl will purchase thier product, but definitly not 2 million. I don't think a 30 min commercial costing 2 million is a smart business move. Just a thought. |

Actually, if you look at the math, it's not a bad deal. Consider Dawn advertising their soap during the friends finale which as you said has an expected viewership of 80 million. Even if 10% of the total viewers are influenced by a 30 sec spot to buy the soap (moderately pricd at $2), that's still 16 million they make. So although 2 million for 30 seconds seems like a lot, considering the number of people who will watch the spot (and chances are the expensive slots are placed at times when viewership is also maximized), the manufacturer only has to reach about 2-5% of the target audience and they can still recover the cost of advertising. |

| ^^^ Yup...what he said...besides it's a one time blow...for a company like that 2 mil is not THAT big...although I don't think dawn would advertise...hehe...It will most definitely be Pepsi or something like that...they definitely have the money to pull it off and i'd say hit their target audience well. |

Thnx guys ! I knew that advertising was involved, I just thought cable companies would give some money to the television stations. Advertising prices during freinds must be intense!! |
Well for the major networks, they don't get too much from cable subscribers because you an get cable channels for very little. But the digital channels get most of their money from subscribers. That is why they can stay alive because no matter if you are watching it or not, you are still paying for it. I learned about that on the Comedy Network. |

:whip: Just like i predicted...Global took over and all I saw were the same old Canadian commercials...the only one new commercial i've seen was just before the finale itself and it was a Burger King commercial... :whip:
