I've never made your type of sound but:
Maybe some careful detuning with eq helps. You should sample your piano and run it thru Kontakt (or some other sampler) and play with the effects. You might want some compression, and don't forget to tickle with the ADSR.
dunno if this helps, but I would seriously consider to run the sound thru a sampler. |

Don't take this as any kindof flame, I'm sure you know more about propducing then me but, why?
Can you not just run the FX on the VST? Then you can tweak the parameters and the FX, if you are just searching for a piano sound CPU usage isn't an issue and when you have the sound then you can sample. |

| Try upping the low and mid frequencies on your piano. Then add some distortion to make it sound harder. A tiny bit of reverb will warm it up a little, not too much though, you want to retain the sharpness of the piano. When you sequence it, have the velocity change for each couple of notes. Try playing your pattern on lower notes, if you boosted the low end it will sound pretty hardcore. |
