Alright speakers but these comes nothing close to Klipsch......

Klipsch is the ultimate computer speakers for your desktop......

I even brought a 4-satillite speaker system for my turntable setup and they sound so clear and crisp. I don't even need an amp/reciever or big speakers for my setup

I've tried the z640 b4...........let just say I open the box then put them back in the box the same day and now they are sitting in my basement :wtf:

I was SO close to buying the old 200 watt Klipsch 2.1 system (from 2000, before they rolled out with the new Promedia 72 watt setup). I decided against it and the 4.1 Klipsch because these Logitechs are a full 5.1 system. It's hard to beat that at $150, which is the same price as the Klipsch 2.1. I mean, Klipsch are nice, but in comparing the two I don't think I'd take them over these Logitechs. The sound is just about the same for the most part.

Definitely get them... I had them for quite a while. Excellent speakers, superb sound quality. Better deal than the ones from creative. Did I mention the subwoofer on this setup. The volume knob on the woofer is on minimum volume and I had to decrease it using volume controls in Windows and it still rips the a powerful bass. If I crank the woofer volume all the way up and if I increase it in Windows as well, then neigbors, cops, ambulance, fire department and possibly national guard will come knocking on my door. :toothless :tongue3

awesome...then z640 it is

not everyone's able to dish out 200 bucks on speakers so we're talking about value vs. sound quality

If you're going to get the z-640s, get them from NewEgg.com. $60 including shipping. I got my speakers and my entire tower from them. Best online store in the WORLD as far as electronics go.

Having tested the z-5300s for a full day, now, I have to say that it is comparable to a Klipsch system. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that it owns the Klipsch 4.1. The 5.1 is probably a bit nicer, but I've heard the 4.1 and the 5300s outperform them. That's insane given the cost of the 5300s.

A friend of mine living above me has the Logitech 4.1 z-560s. They're 400W RMS, which is higher than my 5300s, but his distort like mad at high volume. The 5300s, on the other hand, hold strong all the way to the top of the volume. (Which is ing incredible when you're sitting a foot and a half away from the subwoofer, by the way.)

This is far and beyond the most impressive computer speaker system I've ever owned. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that it's the best money I've ever spent on computer hardware.

Buy them. You will NOT regret it.

do you need a special soundcard to use these speakers.

You're going to want a decent 5.1 card to take full advantage of them, but if you have at least a nice 2.1, you should be fine. I'm running an A7N8X Deluxe motherboard, which has badass built-in 5.1 nVidia Soundstorm as part of the nForce2 chipset. It's comparable to Audigy.

But yeah... to answer your question... You want a 5.1 card if you want these speakers to be worth it.

On-board sound chipset is nothing compared to standalone cards. Well, maybe it is just me, 'cause I upgraded to SB Audigy 2 ZS. :D

Bah. :)

I can hear some variance between the Soundstorm and an Audigy II ZS, but not enough to make me want to go out and grab a $200 card.
